Artego Pizza Review
As some of y'all know I've been on a truly spectacular pizza quest for some time now. I've had several mentioned on here as KC's best and I came away silent, which means if i dont have anything nice to say, keep my yap shut. Today was time to try Artego Pizza and good God is it wonderful.
I can safely say the best pizza I've found is nestled smartly on 39th street. Dont wonder if it's worth the hassle of midtown parking, it is. My new favorite pizza in KC and one that I would crave if we didnt live here. Just get there, keep this place busy, let Joe Perez know what they are doing there is truly special.
Started out with half order of the regular wings, cheese garlic bread and the Caprese salad. Not a weak point in any of the apps we got. The salad was fresh and took us back to summer time. The garlic cheese bread was robust, crisp on the edges, tasted like fresh mozzarella and served with fresh made marinara, which is also true of the pizza sauce...no artificially sweet or sugary sauce, but robust tomatoes and spices. The wings...oh those wings. Carlton Logan was correct in that I had to try those. These are an interesting take on Buffalo wings. Excellent sauce flavor with some heat, HUGE wings packed with flavor. These imo are best hot wings in KC, keep in mind I'm just a guy working around town and love great food. They aren't smoked wing like my favorite wings at Haywards, but more traditional...two totally different wings. Excellent.
Now the main event...we got the pesto chicken pizza. Grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, fresh chopped basil, onions, pesto, mozzarella and we added Roma tomatoes and roasted garlic on thin crust. And there you have it KC, my pizza I've been looking for...it's excellent. Crisp crust to support all those toppings, not a NY style, but crispy thin goodness. Cant begin to tell you how much I loved this pie. We also got the girls a cheese pizza to try the house thick crust, again not like any "style" pizza, just completely delicious. Zesty sauce, lots of cheese and a thick crust that somehow was also light and crispy. Not doughy at all. I dont hand out best of lightly, but again, IMO, this is the best pizza in KC. There probably isnt a pie on that menu that is weak...the specialty pies all seemed to be well thought out with what its paired with for toppings and of course, you can add toppings like we did.
Great drinks as well...hey, I didn't have to drive so I ordered up the Kansas City Mule. Served in a copper cup, this is a great drink. Had to have 2 lol.
Joe Perez and staff, loved the food and the service was outstanding. One of those places it's just fun to be at, entices the senses with fun music, artwork and smells coming from the kitchen. Great...
Read moreWhen I sit down to the restaurant, it’s much different than when you order it through carry out - in the restaurant I order the 39th St. pizza and I double all the toppings so I called in my carry out order ( 2nd time I did this First carry out a few weeks ago was much heavier than this one and I didn’t double the pineapple tomatoes an extra sauce the first time! ) I told them what I want, confirmed that everything would was to be doubled but when I arrive for pick up and still had to wait because it had to cook extra time… and when the pizza was finished it was very light and looks like it is only standard toppings. I opened this pizza to show her. It’s just standard toppings that there’s not extra of anything on the pizza - In my opinion the cheese is sparse the tomatoes maybe one piece per slice they’re supposed to be doubled I see black olives and there is not a thick combination of the three meets onions Bell peppers pineapple or extra sauce that I ordered on this pizza!
The cashier questioned the cook and he said he doubled all the toppings but if I can add a picture I would show you that it is a standard pizza that you would get from Pizza Hut as a super supreme and it really looks no difference or slightly less toppings and I paid $60 for this pizza!! - don’t order carry out so down and eat it but the carry out people will cheat you on toppings.
I’m not even returning for in restaurant dining - the first lady we had eaten pizza with here made our pizza absolutely perfect as a server. I don’t know what changed other than carryout. Difficult to get your order correct I guess?? from this experience I’ll find myself a new pizza place. Sorry guys I gave you more than one opportunity to fix this pizza and you decided not to do this.
The cashier last time, same cashier lady even commented on the first carry out order of how heavy that pizza was!! This time she said nothing so it must be a corporate decision to steal money from their customers as you do not get what you pay for - Again in my opinion other people may have a...
Read moreWe visited this establishment thinking/hoping/expecting to enjoy the food due to the numerous compliments and rave reviews. Well, we were/are VERY disappointed. The first warning sign was the fact that when we arrived to pick up our overpriced orders(3) we were told that the order didn't print "for whatever reason". An apology was given and we had to wait. 2nd warning sign: When we returned to actually pick up the orders, an employee was literally at the front counter separating some type of ingredients with her bare hands, i.e., NO GLOVES! 3rd warning sign: We clearly stated no sauce on the chicken wings - We got buffalo wings which means they were sauced; the Taco pizza I order tasted nothing like any taco meat I've ever had - it had a bitter taste and quite frankly, Minsky's Taco pizza was much, much better the last time I had one. It's usually 3 strikes, but the last one is way beyond comprehension. My sister called the restaurant and asked for the manager. His response: Take A Message! Are you kidding me? Really? Who does that? Apparently a possible former KC Chiefs player/ now restaurant owner/manager? Not sure if it's one and the same, but WHOEVER it was, that says it all....The ONLY bright spot: LORIELLE - she took it upon herself to approach me and explain the story of the amazing artwork, because the initial employee I asked first of all simply said "What's up" (?) when I said excuse me, trying to get the back story. She stated a few words and walked away as if I was invading her space..... I wonder if she is related to the manager!?!?NEVER.EVER.AGAIN.PERIOD....
