Have heard good things about this place- it cost $22 for three bagels and three chocolate milks. I'm from a town about two hours away and am spoiled with a local bagel place that is absolutely delicious and super inexpensive less than $3 for a bagel with cream cheese, thought Meshuggah's was overpriced at closer to $5. Ultimately was sorely disappointed in this place and it definitely did not meet my standards for bagels. I did like the chew on the bagel, but the everything bagel didn't have a ton of flavor, was mostly sesame seed, and the garlic and herb cream cheese was truly disgusting. I'm a big fan of garlic but this was definitely not fresh garlic, more so the stuff you'd get in a jar that just doesn't have nearly the same appeal. Service wasn't great- lady who ordered behind me seemed to get priority because she was a regular who knew the employees, watched them stop my order to work on hers. My travel companions enjoyed their bagels, but I definitely wouldn't drive through the rougher part of KC again just to get a bagel. Maybe would be willing to try the Overland Park location with a different cream cheese. Maybe will just stick with the bagel shop that is much better,...
Read moreMy friend introduced me to Meshuggah Bagels when I treated her to a birthday breakfast earlier this month. What an absolutely DELIGHTFUL experience!
The place is small--almost a converted home--and perfectly charming in its decor and simplicity. The staff is so friendly and helpful! Since it was my first visit, the young man behind the counter guided me through the menu, and I arrived at exactly what I wanted: an garlic bagel sandwich with smoked nova salmon, capers, and onions. YUMM!! I was instantly transported to my friends' home in Queens, New York, and stepping around the corner to their neighborhood bagel shop. My bagel sandwich was truly a slice of heaven, and the genuine article! I only wish my NYC friends could have tasted it. :-)
I am sad that I've lived nearly 20 years in Kansas City and had no idea that Meshuggah Bagels existed! But those days are gone, and I will be a frequent customer from now on. Because, outside of New York City, I have never tasted a better bagel!! Thank you!!
P.S.--My friend really enjoyed her bagel as well. And their coffee is really...
Read moreThey get a 5 because they're definitely the closest to a Brooklyn bagel I've ever bought in KC, and I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED my everything bagel with lox and scallion schmear. They're actually not the first water boiled bagel around here, as Tippins does it too and distributes them in grocery stores around town. But since I had a Tippins poppyseed bagel here at home, I also bought a Meshuggah poppyseed to compare head to head, and the Meshuggah bagel definitely won. The texture on both was close, but the Meshuggah tasted better. They have BIALYS(!!!) on the menu, BUT THEY RAN OUT BEFORE I GOT THERE! I went to the OP store. I would suggest maybe more smaller tables vs that big one, put napkin dispensers on all the tables, make coffee refills more easily available, and make the cream more easily available than just by the front door. I can imagine that place being jam packed during busy times, because it's not very big in there. I'd also put big windows leading into the kitchen so people can watch the process. Definitely a winner, I'll be a regular customer, although probably mostly...
