Family friendly eatery and frozen custard fast food option. You'll feel like you're transported to a 1950s soda shop (similar vibes as Steak N Shake but better quality -- which should be since it is 2x the price.)
History The history of Freddy's founder, Freddy (lol), is all over the restaurant including family photos. He was the youngest of 9 kids and was born in Colwich, Kansas. The first Freddy's was located in Wichita at 21st Street and Tyler.
Food Freddy's really shines with their steakburgers and their custard, as you'd imagine based off the name. The melts and sandwiches are a nice option, but the burger is the best. The fries are the thinner type, but you get plenty with each meal. There is a drink dispenser in the lobby, so you are responsible for getting your own drink/ice (which I love personally.) Freddy's is also famous for their fry sauce, which I'd definitely recommend checking out! I'm from Utah, a place where you can find fry sauce anywhere, and this was a pleasant surprise.
Frozen Custard Not as much variety as you would get at an ice cream/custard shop, but a larger variety than other fast-food places who offer deserts to go. I ordered the limited peppermint oreo shake and was pleasantly surprised with it. The only gripe I have is that the sizing is quite small for the price you pay - I could have gotten a venti frapp at Starbucks for about as much as I paid for my "regular" size shake.
Rewards Program I joined the rewards program prior to visiting Freddy's. At the register, you'll find a scanner where you can scan your QR code associated to your account. Another option is uploading your barcode # from a receipt AFTER the fact if you forgot to scan your QR code. Not every restaurant rewards program lets you back upload visits, so this is exciting. Rewards are used to redeem free food in a tiered manner (300 pts = large fries, 1000 points = $10 reward, etc.) You can find your points easily on the app or the Freddy's website.
Service Expect a bit of a wait if you go during peak times. Lots of people both in drive-through and dine-in. During the busiest times, you will not be able to order ahead in the Freddy's app (which I love for the staff!) Understaffing is its own pandemic, so I do not get upset when I have to wait a bit longer because I know my grub is worth it. Staff is friendly!
Improvements The printed receipt says the location is in Kansas City, KS. This location is in Missouri. May need to be updated for those who are writing this off...
Read moreThis was terrible. We went through the drive-through and grabbed a couple of burgers. we waited in the drive-through for over 30 minutes…. I might also add all the other Freddy’s I’ve been to have been amazing and I know what the meat tastes like.. When my husband and I both got our hamburgers out of the bag and took a bite out of it, we instantly spit them out at the same time. You could tell the meat had gone bad. It tasted like vinegar and fish. I called the location and the manager Agreed to give me my money back. She did not want to. I told her she can have the burgers back. I did not want them remade, they were terrible and she will see that they both just had one bite out of them (The fries were actually good).
My husband took the burgers back in and an employee Yelled at him, telling him that they don’t even have fish there. He said that he understood that but the burgers tasted like fish and vinegar so likely the meat is bad and they should probably check it. The worker continued to yell at him, telling him that the Meat is not bad And that they do not even have fish there so how could the burger taste like fish? He tried to explain to her that’s what bad meat tastes like and she kept arguing so he just dropped it and stayed quiet. He asked for the manager, the manager came up and didn’t say anything just gave him his money back. She didn’t even apologize. When he told me the employee was yelling at him in the store. I called back to get the store, managers name, and no one would answer the phone. Stay far away...
Read moreTonight I went through the drive thru. It took a an unusully long time to help the car in front of me. When the young lady took my order, nothing showed on the screen, nor did ahe bother to repeat back my order. I clearly asked for a veggie burger, no cheese. When I got to the window, I repeated to the guy veggie burger no cheese. He said right, no cheese. Whe I got my bag and receipt the food smelled very strong to me, so I checked my bag and found 2 beef patties. I do not eat flesh of any kind,so I took the bag and receipt back in to the cashier. She told the cooks and they refixed. 1 the lady that handed me the correct bag said sorry, #3 California is beef, i said "what"? I never said that at the window, i said veggie. The young gal at the window who originally took my order was very nonchalant, she seemed very disinterested, but said sorry do you want a custard. I said no ice cream but could I havre a coupon for a free meal when I return. All i heard was crickets. What happened to repeating an order and or showing it on the screen? This was a very bad experience to smell the beef. It makes me gag. Not much of an apology from the workers. I didnt have my glasses on so I could not see the full receipt that came after he...
