Mesob Restaurant & Rum Bar located at 5225 NW 64th location, unfortunate to have to message friends to say that the parking lot was untreated, potentially hazardous due to ice. The dinner rsvp gave ample time for maintenance to be attempted, even the path to the door was untouched;yet we made lite laughter of the penguin waddling used to enter the building.

Upon arrival,it's explained they do not serve liquor due to a licensing issue, pointing out the gas station and chain grocery store which could sell the liquor and our group could bring inside. Gladly, we obliged sending 1person from our party to make purchases; again, making lite of the name "Rum bar" in the business name yet respectfully listening to how they hope to remedy the issue in the future. The host/waiter (who spelled-said his name was "J-I-M-S") said he would not start taking orders until the 1 person whom left returned. At first remark our group thought he was joking since we came prepared for the KCRW Menu and questioned why he would need to delay; Jims response was that he didn't feel the need to come back to our table more than once for orders. He stressed the likelihood that we would order something incorrectly, therefore he 'instructed' us that it's best to wait for the entire parties arrival anyway. [Confused: As we had all, JUST been in attendance 😳] If informed the run would delay things, then we could've made a better decision. We took dismissed the moment and made small chat.Once allowed to order, Jims appeared agitated by menu & taste questions; refused to let another server help our table when asking for a round of ice (reminder, ice for the beverages we were allowed to bring). When asked why the other waiter couldn't serve us ice or carbonated beverages, Jims bluntly stated how " 'that guy' can't help, you deal with me only". The condescension tone was offensive- was this to demean or embarass his peer?! Not sure but the atmosphere shifted greatly.

Next the courses came out, unfortunately not given to each guest in a timely manner. If missed, item was brought out with the "next" plate, the entire group was given cold soup. Jims stated that the soup "should be hot, like hot-hot". Yet, each person agreed it was still cold. Again, Jims removed bowls in a disgruntled manner, said he would heat it up for 1 minute;Obviously, not deferring from the use of a microwave. Last course was dessert, and here is where disaster struct and could not be undone. There was only 1 dessert "choice" on the menu. The business had been aware since our entry and forced delay in ordering that KCRW menu offered all courses. Upon finally gaining the prolonged attention of the supposed only person whom was allowed to help us, it was said that they were out of desserts. Our group was volun-Told we could wait 10 minutes for the dessert, or just pay and leave. This "option" made every party guest question what has caused the nature of his behavior for the entire visit? While we stated we don't mind the wait, we would like for the demeanor be explained for various afflictions felt throughout the visit. Jims claims he didn't take anyone negatively "personal" , but he would like to help the other guests and will return when desserts are available. So we let him take leave, but voiced how the lack of hospitality weighed on each of us. AFTER 40 minutes of waiting, Jims only brought out 2 plates with said dessert. Claiming he assumed we all couldn't have wanted the dessert?!?! Quickly tones changed, our party requested some acknowledgement to our disheartening experience. Jims defensive demeanor ,our group should not receive any compensation, refused to address questions, and gave many the silent treatment while handing out "checks"! Yet, it was duplicated instead of given individual menu items. How does a business REFUSE to even give an apology for the inconvenience (heartfelt or not), even those tactics were not demonstrated.

The best part, the only reason I gave it even a single drop of a star 🌟 was the chef must really enjoy spices and love what...

Let me start by saying I have been going to the Mesob location in Broadway for a while. Tonight however we thought we would try the new location on n64th St in parkville. What a mistake. Made a reservation and we arrived early and there was no mention of a reservation. We were seated under what seemed like a spotlight it was so bright. Next our server was in training and when she asked did we need a minute, we did not think it was gonna be 15minutes. No one came to our table nor asked have we have been helped. We sat there so long that I was able to cancel our reservation at that location and make a reservation at the Broadway location. Like I said I have eaten at the Broadway location 7or 8 times the service was never this bad. To move forward, we arrived at the Broadway location and was asked if we had reservations. I told the you g lady yes and even though there were like 6tables open within view, it still took a few moments to be seated. One seated the little rude lady returned with water and that was it. 10 minutes later I stopped a waitress to ask her if she was our waitress. Needless to say she wasn't. I would have been a big deal but the owner was in front of our table making drinks. I'm sure you would notice a table that had not been helped. Finally another young lady came to the table took our drink order and meal order. We showed her that we pleased to have been helped. 15minutes later she returns with our appetizer and no drinks. She ended up going to make our drinks herself. Wow. I have been to Mesob when it was packed no open tables and I had better service than this. I never like to leave a bad review but Mesob in parkville will never have any of ur returning. As for the Broadway location, it is one of my favorite spots and I like introducing people to the vast selection of rum they have and the good food. I would just like to thank my server for saving the night. She did suggest she was a new hire and was as attentive as she could be. Funny thing is when I first started going to Mesob I never thought I would own my own restaurant. Now that I do, I hope our employees will be as attentive...

The food in this place is other worldly. The beef tibs were incredible. They were tough which was disappointing but the flavor was out of this world!! I got the cabbage and potatoes and yellow lentils as sides and they were all perfect. My wife got the chicken jambalaya and it was so good too!!! We also got the fried plantains appetizer or banana pesee and they were so good. The food was incredible and easily top 5 favorites I think I've ever had.

That said, holy hell the service was abysmal. Like you have to try to be as bad as we witnessed both servers. They didn't have their liquor license yet so couldn't order cocktails and they didn't know that. Had to order food multiple times because he didn't write anything down and then had to ask us at least 4 times what we wanted to drink and eat cause he forgot (just write it down for gods sake). Also ordered Mac and cheese as a side and our main dishes came out and we asked where it was after 5-10 min and said oh that's my bad I forgot and didn't order it. Not a huge deal, but had you written things down, it would have been fine :P. He brought out the wrong type of wine. Their website says happy hour on it but they don't honor the happy hour yet (for some reason. I wanted to ask the server why but he didn't seem to know much about anything at the restaurant he serves at). Tons of things they need to improve on, but they nailed the food. I'd probably order takeout next time to not have to deal with the complete ineptitude of the servers we encountered tonight.

All that said, please don't let that discourage you from going. This place was so good, I just wish it wasn't so expensive. Cheapest entree is about $25 a person. So for two people and drinks be prepared to drop $100 including too. I hope they can stay around but hard to see that happening with 6 pm ground and seeing 6-7 other people in the whole restaurant.

The inside of the place is semi decorated but the outside is petty dilapidated and run down looking. Parking lot is...

A good nearby Ethiopian option if you are up north. They also serve Caribbean food. We ordered the Ethiopian Vegetarian Platter which feeds two, it comes with four dishes plus a salad, with one roll of injera. You probably won't have much, if any leftover, but unless you are starving it should be plenty for two to get full. The main entrees come with two sides! The Platter does not! We accidentally ordered a couple of large sides, but ended up with leftovers, so not all bad. Overall the menu prices seem a little on the high side, but the platter that we ordered was actually pretty reasonable for the amount of food. The sides are a bit expensive, but they are pretty large portions, so it balances out! The atmosphere inside was pretty nice, with stone pillars. Seemed like a nicer remodeled chain, maybe a Carrabba's. Medium sized, but divided up a little so it feels slightly cozier, plenty of seating for a good sized party. They had some porch seating as well. The service was friendly, they were busy and the host seemed distracted so we waited for a bit. But once our waiter realized that we were waiting they were super fast and friendly. Our food was probably out in five minutes after we ordered!

We have visited Mesob when they were in their first location, then when they moved across the street into the corner lot we enjoyed Mother’s Day brunch, anniversary lunch and many memories. With them opening up a second location in the Northland it opened up more opportunity to make the drive as it is MUCH closer to us. New staff, new building but the same great flavors! We are excited to continue to watch this family bring foods to our city that just make you want nothing else. Last nights dinner was just that. Originally our daughter wasn’t sure of the options so got her the mac n cheese, found myself trying it and it was so creamy and flavorful! I git the chicken jambalaya and believe it or not our daughter ate three plates of it, that’s how delicious it was - like hot Cheetos, they are spicy but a good spicy! My husband got the Jerk Ribs… they were literally the best ribs ever tasted and I don’t like red meat often. As always we started with the Banane Pesee (fried plantains & spicy slaw) Highly recommend giving them a try for a date night or even family dinner if you are looking to try something new.
