I’ve lived here for 4 years and have never had a positive encounter at this dmv. As a military family we love a lot and have met our fair share of dmv employees. This location, by far, is the worst. If you need anything from a dmv, go to Gladstone!
I’ve seen them get into loud shouting matches and verbal altercations with patrons. They will dismiss you for the smaaaaaaallest thing after waiting hours in line and not even really tell you what you’re missing or what exactly is wrong with it. They’ll just tell you it’s wrong or that you’re missing xyz and send you on your way. Then when you come back with the fixed version they’ll tell you they don’t except that document anyway.
My most recent encounter with them - I’m trying to get my daughter drivers permit (a process that has now taken us almost 6 months).
We were told they don’t accept laminated SS cards (totally valid) but her W-2 or school/medical record would work as an alternate proof of her SSN. Well, my daughter is homeschooled and works for me. I have a fully incorporated business, LLC/S-corp business and she works for me and gets a w-2 every year.
Well, we brought her W-2 in for 2025 because she is taking the rest of the year off to work a “normal” job so I was able to create a 2025 w-2 for her early. They said they were not accepting 2025 W-2s yet so I drove back home and got her 2024 W-2.
When we came back we told them that the state website says she can use her W-2 instead of of her SS card and they said “yup!” So we handed them all her documents and then the man serving us went to the back and when he came back he said “no, we aren’t accepting W-2s anymore” — which isn’t the case according to the official MO department of revenue.
It was likely due to the fact they thought I was making up/forging a w-2 and based on that personal (incorrect) opinion, they sent us away and denied her permit without her unlaminated SSN card (which we can’t get right now because we are moving to VA and the soonest KC SSA had for an appt was Aug 20th)
Not to mention that this is just not professional at all in so many other senses.
At any given time you can walk in and they will be dressed in cut off shirts and short athletic shorts, sweatshirts with the hood on, or reading books at the desk on their “break” as there’s 100 people waiting. I’m all for you taking a break, but do it elsewhere in a break room or off the premises or something.
I’m sure many will read this and think “what a Karen and that’s ok”. I never write Google reviews or complaint hardly ever, but this location is JUST THAT AWFUL. None of the people I’ve ever encountered there are nice or professional (and anything but helpful)
So, if you’re looking to do ANYTHING at the dmv, go to Gladstone.
Even with the new management that took over- it’s still horrible and maybe even got...
Read moreThis is by far the worst place for any international student to try to get a driver’s license. Some of the workers here are completely incompetent, unprofessional, and unable to understand even simple English sentences written on their own official documents. They clearly don’t know the laws or their own requirements, and instead of helping people, they waste time, create problems, and cause enormous stress.
I came fully prepared with exactly what the official Missouri DMV website states: “Valid, Unexpired Foreign Passport with a valid I-94 Arrival/Departure record.” I had all the correct documents in hand. Instead of processing them, one of the employees insisted that I needed an extended U.S. visa — something that is not written anywhere in the official requirements. When I asked them to show me where that rule comes from, they started citing completely unrelated government agencies that had nothing to do with driver’s licenses.
I asked to speak to the manager, but he was absolutely useless. He kept pointing to another item on the list of acceptable documents, ignoring the fact that the website and their own printed handout clearly say you can provide any one document from the list. When I requested an official denial letter, the manager wrote a false statement saying I had not provided the required documents — even though I had given them both my valid foreign passport and my valid I-94. Then he tried to argue that the phrase “Valid, Unexpired foreign passport with a valid, unexpired U.S. visa accompanied by an I-94” is the same as “Valid, Unexpired foreign passport with a valid I-94 arrival/departure record.” When I pointed out the obvious difference, he told me that “talking to me is like talking to a wall,” which is flat-out insulting.
After wasting an hour arguing with people who clearly didn’t know what they were doing, I had to drive to the Gladstone DMV. There, they processed my application in five minutes with zero issues. The lady who helped me was shocked when I explained why Parkville DMV had refused me.
If you are an international student, avoid this DMV office at all costs. The workers I dealt with are unqualified, rude, and incapable of doing their jobs. All they will do is waste your nerves and your time.
Parkville is home to Park University with a large international student population, which makes it especially unreasonable that this DMV office treats international students worse than Gladstone, and the staff here should be properly trained to...
Read moreI actually love this DMV location, but today, January 27, 2025, i was there between 12:30 to 1:30pm, with only 2 counters working and the middle was vacant for the Drivers' side. I was appalled by the attitude of this one girl, who sat on the vacant middle computer desk, obviously came from her lunch break. I failed to get her name, because their names in this location are taped on their front of the desk, anyways, I got in while 2 agents are serving D3 and i got number D13, so she came from her break, and ask this guy (d14, i know coz the guy came after me, who rudely cut us in the parking lot, while we are waiting for other cars to go out, had the audacity to stare at us even if he is the one who cut us and almost hit our truck, as if provoking my husband. I had to ask my husband to please let it go, he didnt hit us) in line to go see her right away, so i was like, excuse me, but im d13( that time they were serving d12), she said, "and you will be called next, with an arrogance and rolled her eyes on me." I patiently waited for my turn and asked about my driver's license( i got a post notice its about to expire this year but my ID says 2028. After clarification, i told the rude lady, who was next to the man who attended to me " by the way, i came first before him you know.," she said nonchalantly, " And i have been attending to him all day..". so i was like," then you guys should put in your door that its not first come first served here.".. there's literally a note there, that if you stepped outside and missed your chance, you have to get a number again. All she kept saying with a smirk, is.. " and i have been attending to him all day."
I would like to speak to the manager, but having my 1 year old and a 5 year old waiting in the car with my husband, I left.
It's sad we have this kind of person, working as a frontliner, who is arrogant and can't follow the company's simple policy. To be honest, if she was not arrogant, and simply explained herself nicely, i will let this go and not write this review. So be kind, even if I am not...
