I really used to like this place, but they'd been starting to slip on details over my last few meals and my last visit was terrible. I had made a reservation for 11 AM and ended up waiting till 11:20 to be seated despite arriving at 10:55. I watched multiple tables of the same party size be seated before us including a group checking in for an 11:15 reservation. When this occurred I asked when my party would be seated and was essentially berated by the hostess that I needed to understand that they had a reservation at the same time as me (which was simply not correct unless the guest misspoke their reservation time.) Even if that were so, guests should be seated for a reservation time in the order they check in if the reservation is for the same time. Especially since we had already been standing around for 25 minutes looking like a group of dotards.
The hostess was confrontational and rude. I did not feel welcome then, and do not believe I'll feel welcome in the future. That should never be the case at a restaurant. Ever.
Our server was excellent. It was a busy morning and he was very attentive and courteous as our food was slow to come out. I would give him 5 stars and I left a tip to reflect that. (He is not responsible for the hostess after all.)
The food is where i was starting to see areas where the restaurant is slipping. More frequently the food is coming out lukewarm (This simply does not do for biscuits and gravy) and the texture of my omelette left much to be desired. (which was also served lukewarm.) I did not dare send it back. I appreciate the coffee served in a french press but the concept of quality of the coffee was undermined by the cheapness of the Ikea press.
Dinner may still be a better choice here, but brunch definitely isn't. It also seems there is no point to making a reservation as the experience just seemed like a token nod to the idea "a restaurant should have a reservation system" but they have no idea how to execute them. I frankly now despise the host staff at this restaurant, and I encourage that potential patrons think twice before going. "Is this place really what it used to be?" Kansas City has high standards, and I think this restaurant is riding on a reputation it once had that is going to progressively diminish over time with competition that maintain their...

Read moreWe saw the great reviews for the Farmhouse and wanted to give it a try. If you are from out of town like us - prepare that this is in a busy "downtown" like setting with parking lots all around and pay to park. We did not see any free parking anywhere around. The parking itself is also confusing with many notices that they will tow cars (and we saw 2 cars being towed!). We visited in October.
When we made it the restaurant we learned they had a bit of a wait but bar/counter seating was open if we wanted it. YES we love that! The hostess had handed my husband a menu card but not me, so I went back and asked for one. This appeared to be a weird request. She did end up giving me a menu. When I returned to the bar with my husband we realized we had 2 different breakfast menus and wasn't sure which was the current one. I asked the bartender and they advised (paraphrased) "we don't really give menus, you have to scan the QR code". So I scanned it... but nothing came up... at this point I was getting frustrated. The bartender then explained that they are both current menus, one was specials, the other was the regular menu.
The menu here is LIMITED. They are farm to table and that impacts their offerings which are always changing. Hubby ordered a special chimichanga and he loved it! I ordered the chicken and biscuit off the regular menu. It was okay. There were A LOT of different flavors and I didn't love the way they went together so much. Here's the best way I can describe it: breaded chicken with kind of spicy seasoning - not like HOT more like chipotle maybe served over split Red Lobster biscuits that also have a lot of herbs in them, with a tiny bit of gravy. To be fair - it also came with chipotle butter and chili honey on it. I asked for those on the side and was very glad I did because I didn't really like either. It all did taste VERY fresh. I did try Hubby's chimichanga and it was delish :)
Service was good, not great. The place was PACKED the entire time we were there. I could easily see this is a hot brunch spot with many awesome looking brunch drinks. They also have a heated outdoor patio (tent over it) and that was a super popular spot as they allow dogs.
Overall it just...
