Disrespectful and rude. I have been a loyal customer for nearly seven years since I first moved to Kansas City. This place has an outstanding selection of spices, bulk nuts and dried fruit, a very good variety of halal meet, and fresh pita bread. Usually I saw an older man (could be in his 70s) checking out customers and the cash register. This time there was him and a younger, mid-to late 40 man doing the register. I had a bad experience with the bulk walnuts there one time: I discovered they were going rancid as I got home. So this time I thought I would try them before I buy. I had an extensive list of nuts and fruit to buy that day. I tried 4 types of bulk items, filled up two bags with some of them, and was getting ready to try another item as the younger man at the cash register said: "Ma'am, you can't be going around and trying everything". At first I was shocked because I know that in Middle Eastern cultures it's a normal thing to try things at the market before you buy them. I showed the man the bags with nuts that I was holding and said: "I am trying, but I am also buying". To which he replied:"Don't give me attitude. You just can't do that." I felt the blood rush to my face and I said: "What if I don't like it?" He rolled his eyes, look around as if he could not believe that I was talking back to him, and repeated: "You can't do this. You just have to chance it". I said, in a still calm tone:"What if the product is rancid, will you return my money to me?" He huffed, looked around as if bewildered that I kept talking, and before I finished, interrupted me:"You just have to chance it". I tried to say that I have been coming to the store for years, but he interrupted again:"You just have to chance it". At this, I laid my bags that I was going to buy down, and walked out of the store without another word. Wow... what a customer service... I was never so disrespected by a shop owner in my life, and nobody ever talked to me like this in the store. The most insulting thing was that I only tried 4-5 things, and I was going to spend at least $30 there, but he made it sound like I was stuffing my pockets with his products for free. I am still in shock and bewildered by his angry and disrespectful attitude. I am not one for empty threats and throwing tantrums, but this event was so insulting and this man was so rude and careless, and if he is willing to loose a loyal customer for a half an ounce of his dried fruit, I will never go back. This is very hard for me and I am sad because I really enjoyed that store, but this kind of behavior is...
