My husband took me out on a date night to Muni. I'd been wanting to try it out for awhile so I was super excited when we pulled up. It's located in the River Market area which has a very eclectic vibe and it sits right next to the streetcar/light railš tracks.
Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in the door our experience was stellar. They took us on a culinary adventure with unique flavors and tempting combinations that delight and literally dance across your palette.
Diamond š was our server and she was as sweet as she wanted to be. Amazing at what she does and very attentive and knowledgeable about their menu offerings. She assisted us in making selections and when I tell you we thoroughly enjoyed everything, BAAABAAAY I'm speaking FACTS.
For our drink we had the Suffering Bastard and it was very good. The drink was perfectly balanced and utterly refreshing. For dinner we decided to order a few things so we could get a nice variety to taste. We ordered Chorizo Rangoon, MuNi Wings, Zaap Zaap Shrimp, Birria Dumplings and Gapow Beef Empanadas.
Let me just say the Chorizo Rangoon had this unique smoky flavor that was EVERYTHING. Fried to golden brown perfection and so good I got some to go. Don't watch me watch TV - LOL! The MuNi Wings were also very tasty and had a crunch that made my husband giddy inside. He absolutely LOVES wings. The Zaap Zaap Shrimp were little morsels of goodness with a sauce that was CRAZY delicious. To be honest they were very slightly overcooked but I'd definitely order them again. The Birria Dumplings were wonderful and my husband got some of those little treats to go as well. Last, but certainly not least the Gapow Beef Empanadas. CHILE, these things were so outrageous that I was looking for somebody's mama to slap - do you hear me?!? The dough in these bad boys was so tender, flaky and light that I could barely contain myself. I was wanting go back in the kitchen to see if my grandma was back there helping out. ROFL š¤£! The filling was equally delectable and I'd go here just for those. I'm lying I'd go back for everything we tried because it was such a unique, flavorful fusion and presentation.
I also loved that they were all small plates to share. Me and my husband were trying to be nice to one another, I mean it was date night. However, there were times when we glanced at each other across the table while eating like "I should've got my own plate of this."
Ryan was also very attentive and came to check on us throughout our meal. He also made some great suggestions. The staff here has great energy and you can tell they all love what they do. They believe in the restaurant and its concept. The food was delivered to our table in a timely manner and it was fresh, hot and ever so YUMMY š. They also offer a fully stocked bar and beautiful decor. The restaurant is also very clean and well maintained.
If you're looking for a unique dining experience, love taste adventures, are all about sustainability and freshness, have an open mind and want something totally different please do yourself a favor and go support this business. We'll definitely be back and will order some of the same things but also try some new dishes. Hope to see you there!...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas excited about the concept because it works, Thai and Mexican cuisine are both savory, sour and spicy. But unfortunately the food didnāt live up to the expectations. To start off⦠Birria dumplings: werenāt bad, they were really dry. The āconsomeā sauce for it didnāt really make sense, it was hard trying to figure out which part of it was Thai. We also had the Tom yum pozole; very disappointing. I didnāt have a photo of it :/ Thereās 4 sad chunks of meats in it, to top it off the actual broth of the pozole tasted like consome youād use to dip birria tacos in it, it didnāt resemble Tom yum at all. Muni wings: this plate was 13 dollars. The red sauce tastes similar to an egg roll premade dipping sauce you could get at an Asian store and the white sauce next to it was actually really good. The wings themselves were good but couldāve used more salt. It was nothing special in my opinion. Empanadas: they were actually really good! It has the same white sauce that they brought out with the chicken but it paired nicely. City rice bowl: this one was probably the best dish we got. The tiger cry sauce was nice and spicy! Mix it all together and everything comes together well.
Atmosphere and service: our waiter was kind and attentive despite it being busy! We liked the inside as well, but if you are claustrophobic, probably not the place to come to.
Overall, the portions are small. Despite the amount we ordered, we left hungry (came with a party of 3). Wouldnāt recommend this place to someone who knows their Thai and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have known Pam and Ted for years now from their other restaurants, Buck Tui BBQ & Waldo Thai. They are exceptional human being, one of the nicest people you will ever meet. My wife and I recently moved to the Garment District in Kansas City and had the pleasure of walking to Muni for dinner. It you follow my posts, it's really hard for me to give 5 stars because perfection is hard, but Teddy comes close on this one. One thing I can say about restaurants today is the staffing if terrible. Some of our favorites in KC are falling apart because they can't find good staff. That is ABSOLUTELY, not the case at Muni. The staff was fantastic. We did not have to wait for anything at all. The atmosphere was fun and light-hearted, which is great for the City Market, and the decor was also fun and airy almost. The food was just different enough from their other two restaurants that you could easily have all three in a week and not mix foods at more than one location. Hopefully, they change their menu as often as their other location, and if they do that is icing on the cake, so to speak.
The only potential changes I could see are from the bar. The drinks were solid but did not come back just for a drink good. The bar manager Darrell at Waldo Thai gives you that experience, and when they have that nailed down, we will have a new staple in the River Market area, that is for sure!
Keep it up,...
