sigh where to begin. If you have other options - just stay away.
3 of the 4 times we visited the front desk there were issues with other customers. 1 was a family in a similar situation as us with double booking and not giving us the room we reserved and 2 were request to change rooms because of other issues. The staff said multiple times that they need to shut the website down as it has missing information and issues with their system. So if you are to reserve, best do it over the phone. However, the other family at check in had done that with other items promised (connecting rooms)...so I'm not sure if thats even a solid bet to get what you paid for.
Parking. Pay for it or plan to have no customer service. The covered parking area directly outside the entrance, while only half is labeled as vallet, they will have you move if you pull in for check in. Unloading or loading up. We got lucky with a street parking spot upon arrival that was close and they had us pull up out to almost the street when loading up. This is with a baby in toe and all the additional stuff that entails. They didn't care letting us have one of the unlabeled spots just to arrive and depart from.
Our room, while reserved over 2 months in advance, was not avaliable upon check in right at the check in time of 4pm. They over booked and it was similar for another family at check in (the only 2 customers present at check in time). We went from a double queen with a pull out sofa bed to a single king and a small couch my 6 year old could barely fit on. This was an "upgrade" in their eyes. The room square footage was reduced from what we reserved and we BARELY had enough room to make a pack and play for our 18 month old daughter work. We required a bed for our daughter and after the staff offered a crib for her (what?!?) they "checked on the room" and said the large L shaped couch would work for her. Thus forcing our daughter to sleep on a narrow 2' wide built in couch that had minimal padding and was not "L shaped". After falling off of it once during the night we had to create a barricade with the chair in the room so she wouldn't fall again. All of this said, we requested some type of discount for our inconvenience and the staff did not want to give any including the general manager on site. Perhaps we didnt create a large enough fuss as we assumed they would try and do the right thing. The mentality was that was the best they could do, insuating if you want go somewhere else go for it. Beyond reproach for a family just trying to get a room for the one night stay we were there. Upon check out the line was 3 deep while one of the staff was chit chatting off to the side not attending to customers. They just really don't care.
It took 3 request to get bedding and extra towels to just cover our basic needs in this room. The front desk took forever to answer the phone on the last call. We exceed the maximum occupancy allowed for that room type.
Quality - while parts of the hotel are beautiful the workmanship and layout leaves something to be desired. The flooring had large gaps between the planks filled with debris, some of the light fixtures did not work and the bed was rock hard. I was awoken to a loud TV playing in an adjacent room at 6am. Horrible sound proofing if you want any privacy or the ability to sleep in. Our view was of safety cones and flags from roof work that was still ongoing.
Overall, if you are traveling for business and are only a party of 1, and don't mind atrocious customer service, go for it. If you are a couple and want to gamble your money then go for it. If you are a family stay...
Read moreI have stayed at many, many Marriott properties over the years, but this was my very first time visiting a hotel in the Tribute Portfolio collection. Many of the other hotels in that collection seem to be in historic buildings, while the Cascade Hotel is new construction.||Even after having been open for a bit, the Cascade Hotel still looks and feels brand new. We arrived into town around noon on a Friday, well ahead of the standard 4 p.m. check-in, but the front desk was able to give me and my friend access to our separate rooms right away.||I was assigned a handicapped accessible (presumably because that was all that was then available) 2-queen bed room, which was very spacious. The layout of the room was a bit unusual in that you open the door and, essentially, you are in the bathroom area. The faucet and sink are to your left, while the toilet and tub/shower are in a separate room off to your right. The desk and beds are straight ahead, with a sliding wood door to separate the bathroom area from the sleeping area should you wish to do so.||The room itself was very, very spacious and had great lighting. The bathroom area had plenty of towel hooks, and the shower pressure was great.||If you were wondering whether Tribute Portfolio hotel are fancy, well . . . the two complementary bottles of water that are in the room are Evian brand, with more available at the front desk should you so desire. For those more environmentally conscious, there is a free water station near the elevator on each floor.||Since the hotel is still in the process of completing its restaurant, the Platinum breakfast benefit is redeemable at the hotel's coffee shop in the lobby, and consists of a breakfast sandwich and the option of a flavored latte or other hot beverage. There was also talk at check-in of a juice and pastry, but those turned out to be either/or offerings upon redemption.||The hotel is located in the Country Club Plaza area of Kansas City, which provides easy access to numerous nearby restaurants, stores for shopping, museums, and parks. It was about a 20-minute drive to Kauffman Stadium to catch a Royals game. If you self-part in the hotel's garage, your room key will provide you with easy in-and-out access.||In reading through the other reviews of the hotel on here, it seems that the few negative reviews that appear all involved issues with the staff. A hotel this new and attractive deserves a helpful and kind staff, so I hope those issues have all been worked out. I know my interactions with the hotel's staff were all just fine, so i would highly recommend this hotel, which turned out to be even a bit more fancy that I...
Read moreWe actually live part time right across the street from the new Cascade Hotel at the Plaza in Kansas City. We watched it getting built and were happy to have Cascade as our neighbor. Our condo was in construction so we took that opportunity to stay here so we could possibly recommend it to friends and family when they come. The room did not disappoint, in fact we were impressed with the attention to detail. Our particular room did not have a great view, we saw the roof but overall the room was great. The overall service, though, leaves a lot to be desired. The Strang restaurants are now closed and I'm not surprised as we ate there a few times. While the food was pretty good the people there had no flair for what they did. Unfortunately I think this lack of service is still present in the rest of this hotel. The coffee bar was supposed to open at 6;30 AM but when I arrived at 7:15 the coffee was not ready and there was no food. If fact nobody was there and when I inquired at the front desk they said she would be back, but honestly I don't think anybody cared. And when i finally did get a coffee they said i had to pay at the reception which is crazy and they charged the wrong price. Living across the street I'm sure if this coffee bar was half a Starbucks it would do very well. But it's not, it honestly less than a coffee vending machine. Too bad with a really nicely built hotel it is filled with people who really don't care or perhaps they are not properly trained? What a shame when it could be so much more. I do hear changes are coming, lets hope the people are proud of where they work and...
