Although the atmosphere was ideal, for that concept; it did have a cafeteria vibe that shot me back to many great moments. High school for one, college was another...Aaaahhh, the yesteryears were great. Then, of course, the hospital cafeteria....now, let's stop and think about that for a moment. Ok? So what you would expect from a bland menu straight 'outta' the hospital nutritional diet platform, were an exact competitive mode with this place. For the entrance, the line was long, /so I assumed that the food must be delicious, and once gathering my tray, utensils, and slid on down, the first encounter with a server was a sweet, short lady; working her ladles, let me tell you! But the part that disturbed me was the communication between the server and the customer. I felt I was being yelled at, rather than being asked which dish I desired. And the aggressive tone mixed in with a pug-like characteristic on her face, made it seem as if she were annoyed. I nabbed what I thought was a portion of flank steak topped a nice cheese, chives, and tomatoes, but dared not ask the short server, I had my moment's worth of a stare-down or yelling match, no thanks! The rest was a decent experience, good server, attentive, and no tension. I nabbed cabbage, and some new potatoes, which accommodated the cucumber salad, and a strawberry fruit cup I had picked up at the beginning of the line. Overall, everything seems tasty but bland, the only thing that seemed salted was the artificial flank steak which was a cutlet for chicken fried steak. The food got cold quickly and realized I felt no heat from the serving line, with all the heat lamps there. Quickly, I realized that the sides were seasoned we'll, but I added a dash of salt, and it was perfect! So take it as you wish. I gave it a two-star, but wouldn't oppose to going back, but neither would it be a top selection of suggestive restaurants to offer someone either! The servers on the floor were attentive, prompt and very courteous, and...

At Luby's Houston #22, I forgot to tell the server that my order was "to go". She mumbled in Spanish to her coworker--"no me dice" and banged the serving tool on the plate. She became increasingly impatient, and then told her coworker in Spanish.."ay, los negros". I understood this negative remark and was hurt, embarrassed, angry, and confused all at the same time. I could not believe that someone would be brazen enough to make a racist comment about a my race IN MY PRESENCE, and loud enough for me to hear. Clearly the worker had no respect for me and obviously, little tolerance for black people, based on her comments. In my opinion, even if I had been a rude customer, the server's comments were grossly inappropriate. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, not all Latinos look like Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayak, Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel, or John Leguizano. Some of us look like Celia Cruz and Big Papi, and we understand and speak Spanish. I'm not Latina, but I'm a black person who understands and speaks Spanish. Despite the rudeness of the server, I apologized to both the server who made the rude comment and the coworker she made the comment to. Then I paid for my food and went home. After getting home, I called and reported the incident to the Manager, who apologized for the server's behavior and apologized on behalf of Luby's. He said that he would meet with the workers and have "sensitivity training". However, if I had made a similar negative racist comment such as "these Mexicans" or "these Whites" or "these Asians", I think that I would probably be subjected to much MORE than a group meeting about "sensitivity" training. I would probably be subjected to a written reprimand at the very least, and possibly termination. This was emotionally traumatic for me, and I didn't realize how damaging it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis location used to be a regular in our eating out routine, especially on Wednesdays or Saturdays when kids eat free. Food was pretty good and employees were pleasant. We don't expect too much from Luby's, however, the past few visits had become more and more miserable. Our last visit a couple of months ago pretty much took them out of our rotation. From the cashier who was loud and rude, to the lazy manager on duty at the time.
The experience that did it for us was because of the childish waitress on our last visit. The entire time we were there, the waitstaff would congregate at a corner booth where, it was apparent, one of their friends was sitting. The wait staff were eating and drinking at this booth when they were supposed to be attending to patrons (I'm fairly sure this is a health code violation in Texas). They would become so involved with socializing with this one individual that we found it impossible to get our waitresses attention and had to go back up to the cashier to get what we needed. When we complained to the manager, the waitstaff went back to work, but then our waitress started openly and audibly mocking us to her coworkers and other patrons. We were appalled at the behavior and finally just had our remaining meals boxed up and left.
Upon leaving, we asked how we could contact upper management and were referred their website. So, once we were home we lodged our complaint. We didn't hear back for weeks, until we received a form letter in the mail with a gift card. There was no apology or assurance that the problem would be taken care of. It was basically, "you complained, here's a gift card". Unbelievable. If you want immature employees to humiliate you and your children and to make you feel like you are in high school again, eat here. Otherwise, steer clear. The location in Cinco Ranch is...
