The food is great, but the waiters are inattentive. This used to be my favorite place to eat, but sadly I can’t support them anymore.
On two separate occasions, my orders were incomplete (never brought to my table) yet I was charged on the receipt. When asked to double check the waitress acted like I was trying to steal something and told her coworker in Vietnamese. Yes, I may not look like it but I can understand you ma’am.
I was annoyed, but figured she was having a bad day. I didn’t want to make a scene, so I just paid (minus the missing things,) tipped, and left.
The last time I went there, I was with my son and we ordered a big meal as usual. He noticed a purple discoloration on the chicken pho and I asked the waitress about it. She told me it was red cabbage. The thing is, this chicken had been sitting in broth and neither of us ordered anything with red cabbage. They didn’t even bring out any vegetables with our soup to begin with (bean sprouts, mint, lime, etc.) I’ve included pictures for reference. (December 2022)
The waitress said she would replace it with a different portion, which she did NOT. The manager was there this time, but he didn’t do anything about it. I’ve debated a couple of days before posting this review and decided to put my two cents in. I felt disrespected, and for the last time.
The food is good, the service is not. Unless you speak Vietnamese, don’t expect to be treated as well as other people that do.
*Reply. There was no misunderstanding, and it was not busy when we were there (3 occupied tables, including ours.) High standards or not, your waitress was made aware of the purple discoloration on the chicken and did nothing to rectify the issue. No apology was given at the time of the incident. It is unfortunate that it takes a public review for your restaurant to take any responsibility, and even then you claim it was a misunderstanding.
I will not be returning, nor will I be removing this review. Please do better for whomever else you serve...
Read moreOh Yeah is the absolute best Vietnamese restaurant I've eaten in in the USA. Actually better than most in Vietnam also due to better quality meats.
(Update April 2023 Thought I'd add a few more pictures. Food, as ever is outstanding. Today, I had Bahn Mi with steak.
Check out our pictures and reviews on YT, Trinh cuoc song my. )
Previously: Viet Thao, the owner, has made his latest mission in life to bring the best of healthy, delicious home-style Vietnamese cuisine to Americans. The dishes we ate were scrumptious. Beef and noodles, thin sliced pork, grilled to perfection on fresh, crisp lettuce, with pickled carrot & radish, egg rolls that were perfectly crispy, without being too hard or too greasy. I love bread, so had to try the Bahn mi (sandwich). The roll (bahn mi) was baked to a thin crust, and so soft and tasty inside. Then filled with grilled pork, vegetables and a wonderful secret sauce, made it the best bahn mi I've ever eaten, in the USA or during my two years in Vietnam. Lastly, when everything is so good, we just had to try the coffee. Vietnamese iced coffee is a treat for anyone who truly likes the taste of coffee, but cold and sweet. This is nothing like the Starbucks swill, watered-down to a faint wisp of java. No, this is strong Vietnamese coffee that's brewed slowly and very strong, with sweetened cream and ice added. Strong enough that it keeps its delicious brown color and tastes like it looks, with a wonderful strong coffee drink that's perfect for the hot climate of Vietnam or Texas for that matter. Anyone in the Eastern half of Texas who has wondered about Vietnamese cuisine or especially if you've tried it but been disappointed, you need to give Oh Yeah a try. I guarantee you won't be...
Read moreI thought the food was very lackluster. We stopped by on our way to South Padre Island. I was very excited to try this place out because my mom said they got great reviews on YouTube from the owner and other Vietnamese foodies. Let me tell you it’s more like Pho Oh No!
I started out with the shrimp spring rolls. Plenty of shrimp but that’s about it. There was only lettuce and the vermicelli noodles and nothing else! I was expecting an explosion of flavors the herbs you would find in this roll but it was very bland. There was no mint, no bean sprouts, no herbs at all! The peanut sauce was super runny and not thick and creamy like you would expect. Was very disappointing to say the least.
Next was the pho. I got the usual Pho Tai and splurged for the big bowl since the price difference from the medium to the large was $1. Needless to say I should’ve stuck to the medium bc like the spring rolls, the flavors were not bursting at you! The meat in the bowl seemed like it was not fresh. I could tell because when the bowl came out the rare meat was very dark in color and not the fleshy red we are used to in rare meat.
The only food that was good were the seafood egg rolls. Lots of seafood in every bite. (I think I saw some shrimp and scallops.)
There’s good in this review, I promise. Although the food was not as “advertised” in the videos, the service was on point! The gentleman that took our order was very attentive. So that made the experience a little better. Other than that, I would probably not drink the extra 35-40 minutes when I could get better Vietnamese food on Bellaire...
