I came here thinking Kung Fu tea was open and noticed it was replaced by this new cafe. I got excited because I saw it was a sando spot and I had literally just got back from Japan less than 48 hours ago. The way I was craving an egg sando and saw their sign made it felt like my wishes were answered. So of course we check it out! Once inside, I also saw they had matcha and got even more excited. My husband and I proceed to order and that’s where I noticed things were a bit weird…
Service- 6/10 Service was ok… I believe one of them was still in training so I won’t get too critical about that. Completely understandable that’s going to take some time. We were determined to try the sandos anyways!
Unfortunately everything fell short. I understand it’s a new spot so I don’t want to be too harsh. But my husband asked if he could have the ebi sando and the two employees said unfortunately they didn’t have any. He said it’s fine, perhaps the chicken katsu sando then? They told him the chef wasn’t in to make that either…. Ah ok….? 🥴 So my husband decided to share the egg sando with me.
Egg sando - 4/10
We both agreed that unfortunately it was very dry. It did not APPEAR that way to be fair, presentation of the egg sando was nice but the taste and texture… not great. It also did not taste like milk bread at all and could barely taste any mayo. Also why was the crust still on? 😞 While trying not to be too critical and compare it to those that I’ve had in Japan.. I thought about the other sandos I’ve had in the Houston area….Milk bread has very distinct taste and this sando tasted like regular white wonder bread to us. 😢
Strawberry Matcha- 5/10
I then proceeded to try the strawberry matcha which also appeared that it was gonna be delicious (it was very green!) but the taste… sigh another let down. Unsure if was the matcha itself, maybe the strawberries or the milk to matcha ratio…? But it had a strange after taste. I felt like the bitterness and aftertaste came from the strawberry (perhaps should try the matcha alone next time) Honestly not sure but I truly hope they do improve.
My husband and I both agreed it needs improvement. I want more Japanese spots like this to open up but at this point I’m going to save my money and make the drive to my other usual spots until things improve. I hope they do so everyone can enjoy...
Read moreCame here thinking kung fu tea was still open and it wasn’t so I thought I’d give it a try. I was excited and optimistic from the outside advertising. When I came in it was dead quiet no music, kinda awkward. I look at the menu and decide to get an oolong tea. They proceed to tell me they do not carry oolong despite it being on the menu. No biggie, got the lychee soda refresher. Couldn’t help but notice a lack of good service from the two employees there at the time talking amongst themselves about the oolong but in an unprofessional way. Anyways I get the lychee refresher instead. The employee asked what size and I say medium. We stood there in silence for a bit while she attempted to figure out how to ring it in. The owner I’m assuming comes over to assist her and he was apologizing as the system needed updating- no biggie understandable. I then hear the owner mention that the drink I ordered only comes in large and the employee proceed to tell him I indeed ordered a large- which I didn’t. Chose to ignore it because it’s no big deal and I was going to get it anyways, just kinda rubbed me the wrong way as they didn’t advise ME, just to each other. I also order the strawberry sando. Drink tasted super off, even the popping boba I added, was not a fan, didn’t even drink it after a couple of sips. I was hoping the sando would redeem the service and drink.sando had about 4 strawberries total and it just tasted really generic- like normal wonder bread and basic whipped cream. No custard inside or an abundance of strawberry- it didn’t even taste like Japanese bread like milk bread. Overall I wouldn’t recommend. $16. Service was poor, quality was poor. Hopefully they’re able to redeem themselves...
Read moreI recently visited this shop and had a delightful experience! The Ube Cream Coffee was absolutely delicious — rich and smooth with a perfect balance of coffee and cream. Definitely a must-try for coffee lovers.
I also tried the Coco Matcha Cloud, and while the matcha flavor was nice, it could have used a bit more sweetness to balance out the bitterness. A touch of honey or sweetner would make it perfect.
The Japanese Style Egg Sando, however, was spot on. The egg was creamy and flavorful, with just the right amount of seasoning, making it one of the highlights of our trip.
The Strawberry Sando had a fantastic creamy filling that paired wonderfully with the strawberries. However, the bread was slightly dry, which affected the overall texture. Still, the flavor was great, and the cream really stood out.
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it — just maybe ask for a little extra sweetness...
