Based on recent customer reviews, there appear to be consistent concerns with food quality, coffee preparation, and service at La Mer Café. While the café has a nice atmosphere and a strong community focus, many diners have expressed disappointment with their overall experience. Freshness is one of the biggest issues mentioned. Some reviewers reported receiving pastries that they felt were stale or not properly stored, including muffins and cinnamon rolls that did not meet expectations. Others noted that certain meals arrived cold, which suggested to them that the food may not have been freshly prepared. At around $45 for three coffees and three pastries, customers expected much higher quality. Coffee quality has also drawn repeated criticism. Several patrons described their cappuccinos and lattes as tasting bitter or burnt, though one reviewer did enjoy the hot mocha. In terms of service, customers have observed long waits even when the café was not busy, as well as staff who seemed distracted during orders. Although reviewers often mentioned that employees were friendly, the experience was still overshadowed by slow service and a point-of-sale tipping system that felt aggressive, with suggested tips of up to 40% on counter-service coffee. Taken together, these patterns suggest La Mer Café risks disappointing and alienating customers if changes are not made. People want to support local businesses, but they are less likely to return if they consistently encounter concerns around food freshness, coffee quality, and service efficiency. Many reviewers concluded that unless these fundamentals improve, the café may struggle to remain competitive in the Kemah area.

The first cafe stop on our TX weekend getaway did not disappoint. I had a delicious latte with attend half and half and my wife got some iced sugar free latte concoction I couldn't begin to explain, but they made it and she loved it. The barista offered us some complimentary biscotti which my wife said was excellent. The ambiance here was very pleasant. Good lighting, chess boards, multiple seating rooms. Including a love seat in one of the corners. With options like La Mer I have no idea how vastly inferior placeslike Starbucks and Dunkin can survive. It just goes to show you that most American consumers value speed over quality. I'll always look for places like La Mer to visit first. Great spot! I'll be back before we head out of town!

We visited La Mer for the first time in May 2024. We arrived at Le Mer about 15 minutes before they closed. Since we were so close to closing time, we just went in to check it out but didn't expect to buy anything. Nigel was working that day, and he was so kind. He didn't hesitate to serve us and packed our order of a variety of desserts and drinks to go. La Mer was cute and comfy - nice sitting areas, don't be fooled by the small space up front, there are two other rooms in the back. The bright space, the good food and drink, and the friendly staff makes this a place I will return to. The standout item from everything we ordered was their Basque cheesecake. A must try.

I absolutely love this place. Their plain drip coffee is the best tasting around. Full bodied, full of flavor and not overly acidic. I have never had a burnt cup of coffee from them.

Their food it top notch too. It is not store bought or from a bag like so many others. I also love that the owner typically cuts down the amount of sugar used as too much sugar upsets my stomach and I can enjoy the treats from there.

The owners and employees are wonderful. I have always been greeted with a smile and they will answer all the questions I have with patience.

I started going here shortly after they opened. In all this time I have only ever had one issue and it was handled promptly, kindly and to my complete...
