I'm emailing to share an event that took place today, September 4, 2025, around 6:00-6:15 PM Central Time, at 243 Marina Bay Dr Ste A-C, Clear Lake Shores, TX 77565.
The incident concerned a live, adult cockroach stuck in the toilet water of the women's/girl's restroom toilet. Please see attachments.
Here are the events as they unfolded:
I walked into Popshelf at the location listed above in this email, with my two children. I went straight to the restroom. I passed a female employee coming from the restroom area. She was on her phone and said "Okay," as I passed. It was said in a firm, agitated way and gave me a slight pause. I concluded it was meant for the person(s) on the phone. I went into the restroom. The light was already on. I saw a live, adult cockroach stuck in the toilet water of the toilet, swimming. I videoed the cockroach as well as taking pictures. I intended to show an employee for possible pest control purposes as this location has been closed on scheduled business days due to AC issues and the like. I walked back to the main floor, to the checkout counter, and spoke to a young male employee who had some facial hair around the lip and chin, about 5'4" (give or take an inch or two). The female employee that I had passed was out on the floor in the same area. The female employee was speaking to a parting customer at that moment. I showed the video to the young male employee and he said "they're gender neutral." I concluded the young male employee was referencing the toilet assignments. I responded with "The toilets? I can use either? Thank you." The young male employee continued, addressing me over my statement, stating "just flush it." The female employee previously mentioned was on her phone again. She looked up and asked "what?" I turned my phone to show said female employee the video of the cockroach. The young male employee stated two more times "just flush it." The female employee asked "is it a cricket?" The male employee continued to talk over me answering "it's a cockroach," and "just flush it." The phrase "just flush it" was said around 5-8 times. I was now offended with the hostile response and toxic interlude that did not allow for growth or evaluation, in addition to devaluing a customer. The young male employee did not consider potential pest control needs. Rather, said employee responded with arrogance and laissez-faire attitude. In short, he did not allow room for fact-seeking information. Due to the previous, I looked at the young male employee and stated: "I know I can flush it. I don't work here." The young male employee laughed and walked toward the restroom, continuing his laughing. The female employee continued a pattern of looking at her phone and myself and male employee. In parting, I stated: "I have no issue flushing. It's a matter of attitude. This is how you lose customers."
I have shopped many times at PopShelf for myself and work. The stock is simple and functional at a reasonable price. However, the location listed in this email, has declined in service and cleanliness overtime, devaluing itself as "nothing special" in comparison to its neighboring competition. I will not seek services at this location or any...
Read moreFirst time being here and it was a negative experience. I walked in with my MIL and my kids at 8pm. As soon as I walk in the door, the manager says “you know we close at 9pm. So you have a little bit of time.” First of all, an hour is more than a “little bit” of time. I took my kids to go buy a toy and the other employee there was literally hovering around behind us rearranging everything my kids and I would touch. Like we couldn’t even look at anything in PEACE because the girl was following us around in there. My MIL had to use the bathroom and they had it locked and didn’t even open it so she could go. By that point we must have only been about 15 min in the store. It was about 8:23 when we left, but we literally felt RUSHED to get out of there. When I got in my car I saw the manager come to the front door and look like she wanted to lock the door when another customer wanted to walk in and she let her. I have worked in retail and I understand the stores close at a certain hour and every employee needs to be out. Now, any decent person reads the hours on the door and respects that, which I DID before even entering the store. Anyway, I have never felt so annoyed like I did here. Especially with an employee “babysitting” you while you are there trying to...
Read moreI’d give a zero for the fact that the workers made me, my fiance n my cousin extremely uncomfortable by instantly following us around when we walked in. We couldn’t look at things for longer than 5 minutes without them popping up out of no where and making sure we had everything we were carrying everytime. It was disgusting. Coming from all three of us who have worked in retail, one of us who still does, it was just appalling and shocking to say the least. I would have put everything I bought back if I wasn’t shopping for a purpose. Not to mention, when they weren’t following us, they were standing at the counter just aggressively staring at us. When we went to check out, the immediately ran up and asked if we were scanning everything correctly, then proceeded to grab the screen and turn it to make sure we were scanning our items correctly. Absolutely feral and out of control with their power, you take your job way too seriously to go to the extent to make your customers/consumers feel like they ARENT WELCOME. Profiling is one thing but proceeding to profile after we are PAYING is beyond me. Grow up and do better! Will definitely never...
