Greco Roma Pizza & Grill — Restaurant in Kenilworth

I always thought that NYC pizza was magically preserved by sitting out on the counter all day? :S

I was in town from FL for work, needed to find some place open late on a sunday night......I stopped in just before closing time (9:45, sunday 10/7/2012).

The pizzas sitting out open on the counter (ala "NY Style") looked pretty good, so I got a slice of Sausage and a piece of Sicilian. Both tasted pretty good. The next day I was very sick from food poisoning. I have spent my career (30+ years) in food service, and am absolutely certain I had gotten a Food Borne Illness from the pizza (s). The symptoms were correct, as was the timeframe. (8-10 hours incubation, severe headaches, fever/chills, vomiting).

I don't want to knock them too hard...like I said, the pizza tasted great (going down). But they really need to be careful about high protein items (sausage/cheese) sitting in the TDZ (temperature danger zone of 40 - 140 degrees) for more than the allowable amount of time. As a food service professional, I should have known better....rookie move on my part; bad sanitation move...

I have been going to Greco Roma for many years. They supplied many lunches for my monthly company meetings. I occasionally by subs from them for my own lunch. I began to complain about the amount of meat they put on their subs, especially the roast beef. One day I decided to just ask for extra roast beef. I was charged $9.00 for a half roast beef sub. Now I decided to try another place. I went to Capri Pizza just up the street and ordered a half of roast beef sub. There was so much meat on it that I could only eat half of it. They slice the meat in front of you, and I counted 9 slices. The roast beef was also very lean. the half sub cost $6.00 ! Now Greco Roma is completely out. Pizza is great, but service leaves something to be desired. It’s not always about the food at restaurants but the people too. I’ve arrived multiple times on time or even a few minutes after they told me to arrive to give them time and they always seem late. I arrived 5 minutes later than they told me and they hadn’t even put my wings in. They didn’t apologize or tell me anything. I sat there an extra 15 minutes while they got my wings ready with not even the minimum apology. For that they don’t deserve anything above a 3 star review.
