Update: Within minutes of this post, the general manager reached out, apologized and comped our dinner. Her immediate response, apology and total reimbursement was unexpected and generous. She brought this from a bummer experience to an impressive recovery. Adding another star. Thank you, Stoup. I hope to give you another try.
Original post, 2 stars: Take out experience was disappointing. They forgot the added on fries and dipping sauce that they charge additional for. When I realized this, I called to inquire I was told “ you can come pick it up or I can reimburse you…” There was never an “I’m sorry”. I chose reimbursement ( didnt realize at the time that the sauce was missing). Joshua said “ ok!” He was about to hang up.
I asked if I would get an updated receipt or notice of the change in charge. He thought so. I didn’t feel confident about his response.
It sounded like they were busy when he picked up. That is nice to hear. What I was most disappointed in was the lack ownership and no apology. I did tell him that i was disappointed and he said “he knew and will rely message.” 😔 Later I realized the sauce I paid extra for was also omitted, but it’s not worth the call back. I also tipped them 20% at the time I placed the order. Disappointing.
Regarding the food,, the fried chicken was very moist, has a mild flavor and is heavy on the breading. Mac and cheese has a good kick to it., very creamy. Hush puppies were hard, couldn’t cut them and very chewy. In past orders, I’m a big fan of their salads and appetizer snacks.
Ive always been a supporter of Stoup. Went to the grand opening. Love the redo from Seaplane. Good variety of offerings. Great atmosphere and easy to order and pay with limited interaction. Friendly staff. Great outdoor space. But I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews about their service- food didn’t arrive, poor follow up and inflated prices. Unfortunately I experienced that tonight along with very underwhelming...
Read moreUPDATE: Went back a few more times and it just seems to be that Stoup is slipping down in quality. Our last visit will be our last. It was a Tuesday night and it was busy. While that can be a reason for things to be slow, I don't excuse them for the GLACIAL speed at which we received our beers and food. (One of the beers was even the wrong beer.) The beer took over 15 minutes to arrive, and the food took around 40 minutes. Since the menu seems to have shrunk all we ordered were burgers, so there's no real excuse for them to take that long. Once we did get them they were a complete disappointment. The burgers fries were cold, the top bun was hot and crispy while the bottom was rather soft and kind of soggy. I used to like the streamlined service model where as soon as I scan the QR code I can order, but there didn't seem to be any advantage to doing so; especially since I didn't have a specific person to ask questions about what was taking so long. I will say that the people working seemed nice.
I've now been there twice. The beer is good and the pizza is great. The first night we had the Lumpia appetizer and the "Chewbacca" pizza. Both were outstanding, though if you don't like spicy food, don't order that pizza. Those serrano chiles are no joke.
The second time we had nachos. Well, this is where they lose a couple stars. While the ingredients seemed fresh and tasty, there were issues. First and foremost, they do not melt cheddar or some other melty cheese over chips, they just pour on a cheese sauce. Granted, it's NOT the nasty nacho cheese sauce you see in convenience stores, but it's the ONLY thing at temperature in the dish. The chips and other items are cold, so whatever heat the cheese sauce added dissipates quickly. In my opinion, these are not nachos, they are a fancy version of chips and salsa.
The other food I saw moving around the place looked really good, so we will probably...
Read moreI'm quite conflicted about my experience and writing this review, but I think it's better people know in case this happens to them.
I ate here on 3/8/25 with two friends. I have life-threatening allergies to dairy and peanuts (anaphylactic shock). Having worked in the service industry and as a server, I always make this EXPLICITLY CLEAR to the server, as politely as one is able to communicate a life threatening allergy in a loud restaurant. However, the waitress last night was N O T listening, and had no intention of doing so.
I told her "I have severe allergies to dairy and peanuts, so I would like to know about options x,y, and z. She suggested option Y. I repeated once more "I cannot have butter, cheese, milk, so please check the ingredients in the buns, and request no butter on the buns." She said "okay no cheese, got it." I tried to say "no, that is not what I said" but she was determined to talk over me and walked away without properly listening.
When the food came I immediately knew the sheen of a buttered bun and was suspicious of the orange sauce. Someone who had (friendly) manager-type energy was walking past a few seconds later so I flagged her down and she immediately said "do NOT eat that. There's milk in the buns and in that sauce." She grabbed a menu and went through all the options that would be safe for me to eat. My new order came quickly and was very good.
The waitress did not apologize for getting my order dangerously incorrect. Had I been trusting enough to eat it, I would have ended up in the hospital. I don't trust anyone to make my food because of my allergies, but I would not advise eating here if you have life-threatening allergies. In my experience, the day wait staff is rude, doesn't listen, and doesn't seem to care that they very well could have landed me in the hospital.
I've eaten here only once, and I live within walking distance, but I don't think...
