This place is an absolute GEM!! My friend and I stopped here randomly after looking for someplace to dine in, after two stops at different restaurants, one was carry out only and the other was closed we were tired of looking, this restaurant was in the same strip and gyros sounded good. We walked in and there was a line and we thought “we’ll that’s a good sign, food must be good “ First let me talk about the customers, while waiting we had several pleasant conversations with patrons. In front of us was a girl with blue hair and this older lady walks up while leaving and says to her “I absolutely love your hair!” Girl says thank you with a smile and the lady says “it looks very good on you “ and leaves. I thought that was very nice. Then I overheard a table get up to leave and someone says “the food was really great, I’m so happy you invited us here “ As we got closer to ordering we could see them making food and let me tell you my eyes got big at what we saw, food piled high when someone ordered one of their bowls and the largest gyro I’ve ever seen, packed with meat. We go up to order our platters and watched them pile on the delicious looking food, when paying the guy behind the counter says “I’m sorry is carry out ok? We’ve run out of food and closing early “ my friend says “aww, we came here to sit but that’s ok” he said “oh! That’s fine you can sit, we have things to do so it’s ok” we politely decline as not to be a disruption. Then the owner (I assumed) who heard the interaction says “please sit, it’s no trouble, I’m a little embarrassed we have to close “ I say to him “don’t be, that’s a good thing, means that ppl like the food if they’re buying it all up” he moves past me and tells the cashier “give them two baklava” they were seriously going to let us stay after closing to let us eat, and gave us dessert for our troubles. Amazing customer service! Our food was as good as it looked and the desert was fantastic, I’ve never tried baklava before and it was the perfect end to our meal. The customer interaction was great, amazing customer service, and the food was excellent, if I could give more than five stars I would definitely 7/5. We love discovering hidden gems and this place doesn’t disappoint, great experience that I won’t soon forget, I will definitely recommend this to...
Read moreI've been going to Pita house regularly for the last year. I have always been a fan. But today I had an unpleasant experience there. I attribute my negative experience mostly to the pandemic. Masks are required and there is a glass wall that you have to talk thru to tell your order preferences. The lady taking my order asked "What?" on everything I said. She could not hear me. After paying almost $ 9 for a simple veggie pita sandwich (their pita bread is not house made - they buy it in a package) I needed to use the rest room. They had the restroom barricaded. So you are paying an in-house price but you can't "dine in" nor can you use the restroom. I had a discussion with the owner. My position is that if you are not considerate enough of your customers to make the restrooms available then why not just close shop until the pandemic is over. After all, he clearly expressed that he did not appreciate my business after one year as a loyal customer. During an economic downturn where small restaurants are closing en mass you would think the business owner might be more appreciative and considerate of a long-time...
Read moreMy husband and I visited The Pita House last night for dinner. The restaurant has sort of a secondary name which is Sami's Gyro. There are two locations, one on Wealthy and one on 28th St.
This is a very simple, casual, but charming place. You walk up to a counter to order and pay. They can make your food dine-in or to-go. The ingredients you can add to your sandwich are all laid out behind the counter for you to see. Several of the employees speak English as a second language but we were able to communicate no problem.
I had the classic Sami's Gyro and my husband had Chicken Shawarma. My gyro was so delicious. The meat (beef and lamb) was seasoned just perfectly. That seems to really be the key to a good gyro, and these folks know what they are doing. The pita bread was excellent as well. It was a very generously sized sandwich. My husband devoured his shawarma and also enjoyed a side of stuffed grape leaves.
If you're looking for a fast, casual, but authentic and delicious meal, The Pita House is a great option! They also sell a small assortment of Mediterranean grocery items which was...
