On Fridays starting at 11 a.m., Cracker Barrel serves their Fish Fry ($9.99). You can choose from four cod fillets hand-dipped in their own special batter and fried to a golden brown or their U.S. farm-raised catfish, cut thin and tossed in a blend of cornmeal and seasonings. Both are served with steak fries and coleslaw. The cod was lightly battered for a crispy exterior and delicate, succulent interior. The batter could use a little more seasoning but salt and pepper is on the table to season up to your liking. The fries were golden brown but due to the thick cut on the steak fries, they were a little underdone inside. A minute or two more in the fryer would do the trick. The slaw was light, crisp, and refreshing. It had just the right amount of sauce for the perfect coleslaw. Rating: 4/5
Fried Chicken Livers ($7.99) are served with your choice of two country vegetables plus homemade buttermilk or corn muffins. Any time I see liver on the menu, it is my first choice as I do not see it very often. If I have a craving for it, I just have to make it for myself at home. Cracker Barrel’s version does not disappoint! They are battered like a good fried chicken with a crispy, golden brown exterior and tender on the inside. You can tell that they use very fresh chicken livers as it was very clean tasting with no gamey or irony flavor. I ordered cheese grits and fried apples as my sides. I love cheese grits and loved the texture of Cracker Barrel’s, creamy with a little bit of chunkiness. It needs a bit more cheese and salt, but great otherwise. The fried apples tasted more like baked apples with a syrup glaze. I think this would be paired better with the Grilled Pork Chop or Sugar Cured Ham Plate. I would probably choose whole kernel corn or cole slaw next time. Rating: 4.5/5
Baked Apple Dumplin’ ($4.29) is covered with pecan streusel and premium vanilla bean ice cream n’ apple topping. First thing I can say is, “OH MY!” If you’re thinking that you’re going to go for the fruit dessert because it is lighter, think again. This is a heavy hitter in weight and in flavor. You’ll definitely need to split this someone. It resembles a very, very deep dish apple pie. The dumplin’ crust is where the heaviness lies with a richness that only a grandma can create. The pecan streusel adds more richness from its rich nutty flavor along with cinnamon. The creamy vanilla ice cream slowly melts and becomes a “country” crème anglais. Rating: 5/5
Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola® Cake ($3.69) is a rich, warm double chocolate fudge cake made with real Coca-Cola and served with premium vanilla ice cream. In comparison to the Baked Apple Dumplin’, this is on the lighter side. It is a light, chocolate cake with a very moist texture. There is a slight hint of Coca-Cola flavor, but I think the chocolate flavor dominates. The vanilla bean ice cream balances out the fudgy chocolate flavor....
Read moreDinner was OK. Takeout meals they peddled incessantly, were awful the day later. The real travesty was the attempt to use the 20% at checkout. First, the cashier with the star piercing on her face couldn't get it to work. After three attempts, she told me she couldn't get it to work. Asked her if she had a manager. "Yeah, but she can't do anything either." I asked to see the manager anyway. After 5 minutes, she asked the other cashier if she heard the radio call. She said no and called the manager who came after a few minutes. She immediately said she knew what to do. After trying to scan the coupon, she told me three times, "There ya go." I kept telling her I could see on the screen it wasn't discounting. She then decided to do a manual discount. She used a calculator for about 5 minutes and said there you go. Nope, $2 discount. Then again, Nope, $3.50 discount. Then she finally said OK. Still not 20%. I say, "not 20%" and she said, "Well, there's no discount on the two $6 take home meals. The first time she had said that which I told her. At that point, she said no further words and handed me the receipt, clearly irritated with me. It's easy to see how the snotty cashier with the star piercings attitude is what she is. The manager is awful. The experience took 20 minutes to get the discount CRACKER BARRELL SENT ME. We often stop at the CB every time we travel to Phoenix or AZ in general. We've eaten there no less than 30 times over the last few years. It's time to find another restaurant. $6...
Read moreMenu getting more limited on every visit. We arrived on Monday at around 230pm We had a really hard time choosing from their limited menu..unless you want chicken. We ordered Gramas Sampler Breskfast..which we have enjoyed many times in the past. I chose pancakes. which were flat, thin, barely warm, and didnt even look appetizing. My husband ordered French toast for an upcharge....Our food was likely cooked early in the day and left in a steamer..sausage patty didn't taste good, funny taste and was as hard as a hockey puk, burnt and inedible. The bacon was cold. The French toast was a child size portion. Hash brown casserole was anything but a casserole. The ham slice was curled up, cold and tough...again having sat on a steam table for hours. The eggs were the best of the lot. We were regular customers and stopped eating there because they cut portions, increased prices and limited their menu.Ww used to enjoy the food but not any more. Whoever is cooking needs more experience. On the plus side, our server was a younger gal, eager to please, attentive , pleasant and helpful. The gals at the register, again were riendly. professional and very much customer oriented. Ww would really hate to see this location here in Kingman close, but the restaurant wasn't busy on our visit and I'm hoping this location ups it's game and gets back to offering good...
