Aesthetically the restaraunt is very pleasing to look at and feels high end from an interior design perspective. Secondly, the waitress was also very amiable and was partially fluid in spanish to the delight of my mother. She was both attentive and pleasant in her service
The food was wonderful and tasty. My mother and I ordered a Teppanyaki Shrimp & Temppanyaki Chicken with a Fried Mushroom appetizer. They started us off with a small salad and onion soup. They were both delicious! They're small proportions so you don't have to worry about getting full of them. They then brought us the fried mushroom with their sauce. The fried mushrooms were hot and that was mostly due to the water/oil of the mushrooms being heated from the frying. The combination with the sauce and mushrooms made me glad that I ordered them. Would order again.
Now the main meal. The proportions were huge. I received a lot of chicken with a medium size portion of fried rice. The chicken came with sliced zucchini & onion. The shrimp plate was the same but with a reduced amount in shrimp. I was very happy with the plate and so was my mother. We didn't finish our food but we got dessert. We of course put the left over food in a to go box. The dessert was banana split slice of cake. At least we thought it was cake by the picture, until they brought the slice and we saw that it was actually ice cream with the bottom layer being similar to an oreo cookie. Either way it was quite nice.
Now why is this a four star review and not a five star? The only complaint but not really a complaint is that this restaraunt can be pretty pricey. For two people it was around $64.00 and with a tip it ended up being $76.00. I can imagine if you're bringing a lot of friends and drinking at their bar, you could easily have a bill for $200+. The menu also informs you that there is a 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more. I would go again but one of those rare visits when I have a...
Read moreI don’t even know what to say.. I love sushi and most places are pretty much the same so I’m never too worried. We decided to have lunch here today. We came in as 5 (3 adults and 2 kids) the food was incredibly bland.. the avocado on my roll was super brown and everything was just flavorless.. my sister order 2 orders of sushi nigiri and she was super confused and was like is that the one with the rice? You literally work here how do you not know that? I asked her if the ginger dressing was the creamy one (the light colored creamy one or the more clear ginger) she said um.. I’m not sure I can bring some out for you to see/try I said yes please that would be great.. she brought the whole salad.. at the end we asked to be split check 3 on one and 2 on another.. I was insanely shocked to see my bill! Mind you this was LUNCH TIME and my two kids ordered lunch special and I got one roll! Three sodas, the total was $85!!!! Like wtf?? I looked it over and noticed an ALREADY INCLUDED TIP OF ALMOST $13!! And my sisters bill was $65!! For two people and they both ordered a LUNCH SPECIAL!! She also had an ALREADY ADDED $9 TIP! I asked her why gratuity was already added as most don’t add for a party of 5 but even if so we were two separate bills and no where did it mention gratuity would already be added.. she said oh it’s just how we do it.. didn’t offer to change it or adjust.. so $85 for not great service, not great food. And long wait for food even though it was not busy at all. What a joke. So many better sushi options that would be worth paying that price. I usually do not leave reviews but for a quick lunch and mandatory tip added I felt I needed to let people know this is NOT A great lunch option. The bill also had an ADDITIONAL TIP SPACE below what was already charge and suggested another $12-$18 ummm yeah no.. just insane to me. They added extra fees and charges all over the place. Be sure to check...
Read moreThis was a negative overall experience for our family. We ordered several appetizers, a couple of sushi rolls, and several entrees. The food was solidly mediocre. The vegetable spring rolls were frozen food quality. Plain mushy filling. The Katsu chicken came out dry. The onion soup had the flavor of powdered beef broth with store bought pre fried onion bits and some mushroom shavings in it. The salad was a single shining star on the full table of general disappointment. Fresh lettuce, sweet and tangy dressing. My only complaint is its entirely ice berg lettuce In a bowl. The yakisoba noodles were unseasoned dry fried noodles with chicken on the side. My son ended up dipping it into the onion soup so it would have at least a little flavor. The tepanyaki steak was tough and lacking seasoning. The fried rice was dry and did not taste fresh. The tepanyaki chicken was tender buy was also plain. The mediocre food was reason enough for us not to recommend this place to anyone. We were given further reason when we were handed the check with a mandatory tip of 18%. We were told it was due to our party being five or more people. We have never agreed with a mandatory tipping scheme. It encourages poor service. We always tip higher than 18% when the service is excellent. This service was not bad but far from above average. If you find yourself in the mood for Asian food, in this reviewer's opinion, avoid Shogun. For great hibachi, try Asian city in Humble. For good ramen in a casual environment, try Airi poke and ramen in the same shopping complex. I dislike giving any eating establishment a bad review. In general I will simply not post a review for places we don't enjoy. Shogun at Valley Ranch...
