First time visiting today with the family. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you walk in it’s bright, cheerful, and it smells delicious. I noticed some of the previous reviews concerning the hours so I asked and they confirmed their schedule is M-Sat: 6am-7:30pm and Sun: 6am-4pm. The food was delicious and I was very surprised they had a significant amount of options for Mexican plates. It seems to be family ran and everyone was nice. Our waitress did not appear to be very experienced yet but other staff would also come by and check on us. As someone who’s worked in the service industry, I understand that the small staff can be overwhelmed especially with a full dining room on a Friday morning. We had two types of omelets with home fries and I had the chorizo and eggs plate. All were tasty and no one got that feeling of being over stuffed or almost nauseated by the amount of grease and salt we’ve experienced at other places before. After speaking with the owner, it turns out they chose to name it the New York diner because the family was from NY where they operated a diner and they wanted to bring their diner here. I found that charming bringing a little piece of their love for NY to Knightdale. To those who solely post bad reviews and don’t bother to address your issues with the managers, keep in mind that for independent places those reviews go a long way. We don’t need more fast food places and chains around here. We need to help the independent places thrive by addressing our issues directly with them first.

We went here for lunch and ordered the ravioli and the cheese steak. Her ravioli was swimming in watery sauce, and the edges were cooked to the point of curling and becoming crispy, and it had no seasoning. My cheese steak i ordered without mushroom came covered in mushrooms and had additional vegetables not on the menu. Also, it was supposed to come with French fries, and it came with some weird potato mush that looked like a failed attempt at hashbrowns. I had also ordered a coffee, and it was burned to the point of being unable to drink. Another table near us had the same experience. We were left sitting there when another staff member (maybe the manager) who was not our waiter came up with us and asked if we wanted boxes. I told him the situation, and he brushed me off. When I told him about the mushrooms on my cheesecake, there was no apology, just an "...ok" and when I mentioned her ravioli he said "well...its a cheese ravioli" ....that doesnt mean it should taste bad. If you can't do it well, don't have it on your menu. Again, no apology, just a rushed "ok don't pay anything" while I was mid sentence. We aren't normally the kind of people to complain, but when the food is inedible and does not come as advertised, i feel like something should be said. The best part of the meal was the fresh tomato that came on my cheese steak that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. 🤷‍♀️

Fast service, amazing food, friendly staff, and quirky features. I fell in love We were originally going to a chain breakfast place down the road but they had an hour wait. One of the people that worked at this chain restaurant that will remain unnamed told us about New York Diner so we decided to try something new and I am so glad we did. We were seated as soon as we came in, our orders were taken and the food came out so quickly. Their menu was so large and had breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ordered the Tropical French Toast and it was unbelievable. I seriously have never had better French Toast. The place is very quirky because while enjoying our amazing breakfast, we got to watch Harry Potter. The interior decor is like a mismatch home feel and I actually like it. It feels real, and much better than the chain options. I highly recommend this place. It feels like a really good find and we will most definitely be coming back.

Went to breakfast with daughter and grandkids, the menu was a little confusing but the waiter was very nice and did a good job. When it was time to pay I felt that the ticket was really high and did a mental addition of our order. The ticket was over by about $14.00. I had my grandson get us a menu and I added our order with a calculator to double check, I was correct we were being overcharged by $14.00. I went up to the cashier (owner of the restaurant) and politely asked her to please add the ticket (which was all manually written) because I felt there was an addition error. She told me I was going to have to wait for the waiter to come back, he had stepped out and needed to fix it. I said to please just add it up, she refused and told me I had to wait. After about 10-15 minutes the waiter returned at which point she told him what was happening in a not very nice way. I told him it was not a big deal that I just felt the addition was wrong. At this point I also told her that I had only ordered scrambled eggs and hash browns and had not ordered the bacon, which the waiter confirmed. The owner then said " well if it was left on the table then you will have to pay for it otherwise he (the waiter) will" I said "he left it on the table, did you want him to bring it back to serve it to someone else?"

She berated him and told me that once I left it was only going to get worse for him, that she was the owner and was entitled to reprimand the employees. I apologized to the waiter and asked her to charge my debit card for the full amount even though nobody had bothered to double check the math. It was not worth the poor guy being yelled at and that I would just pay the ticket amount.

I was very upset that anyone would be spoken to in this manner, and told the owner that here in the US the customer is always right and that her customer service was poor, being Hispanic myself I told her this in Spanish.

I left the restaurant and met my family outside, at which point her son also a waiter, followed me out and started yelling at the me saying that they were entitled to speak to their employees any way they wanted.

Keep treating people like this and as busy as you may be your business will not last forever. I don't care how good your prices are or how tasty your food, you left a sour taste...

Review:Years ago, I stumbled upon this hidden gem, drawn in by the pride the father of the family took in both his food and service. The establishment quickly became a favorite haunt, offering solid fare and a welcoming atmosphere. However, recent visits have left me disheartened as the quality of both the food and service has noticeably declined. It appears that the absence of the father figure, who once epitomized the dedication and passion behind the operation, has taken its toll on the establishment. His absence is palpable, with the once exemplary service now marred by a lackluster approach. The new male waiters, who has never heard of hospitality, now exude a palpable disdain, their perpetual scowls a stark departure from the warmth and friendliness that once defined the service. Moreover, their attentiveness has waned significantly, with little to no follow-up after the initial food delivery. On one particularly disappointing occasion, when dining with a party of nine, the waiters refused to seat us until the entire party had arrived, despite the fact that the majority were already present. This rigid and inflexible approach to seating left us feeling frustrated and unwelcome.Furthermore, the once-active involvement of the family's children, who would often lend a hand and contribute to the familial atmosphere, has dwindled. Instead, they now seem preoccupied with their phones, oblivious to the needs of patrons awaiting refills or assistance.Despite years of patronage, the gradual decline in both the food quality and service standards has reached a tipping point. From actively avoiding certain waitstaff to contemplating whether it's worth returning at all, the experience has soured significantly. In conclusion, while it's disheartening to witness the decline of a once-beloved establishment, the reality is that the absence of key individuals and a shift in priorities have taken their toll. Unless significant improvements are made, it's difficult to justify continuing to patronize this establishment in its...

(Out of towner visiting the area) I chose this place over IHOP bc they had corn beef hash on the menu. 1st time visiting and needless to say the experience was terrible! I walked in on a Saturday morning and granted the place was fairly busy. I was the 1st person standing in line waiting to be seated. The lady didn't even acknowledge me and as customers started coming up to pay for their food (and that line grew) she helped everyone of them leaving me standing there without even a word. A family came in and she had a waiter seat them AHEAD OF ME, seeing multiple tables available I asked if I should seat myself and she finally spoke to me rudely stating hold on a minute that's my job yet she wasn't doing it. Finally the waiter who sat the family ahead of me came to seat me. I asked for a smaller booth as I didn't want to sit eating in the middle of the floor with no privacy. She rudely refused and I asked to speak with a manager which she rudely refused! So I left and opted to leave my review instead. Here's the thing.. Being a small business owner, from my perspective, a good business boils down to CUSTOMER SERVICE FIRST. No matter how good the food may/may not be if you don't know how to treat your patrons (the ones spending the money to keep your business running in the 1st place) you will eventually crash and burn. I'm not going to go as far as calling the establishment racist, but some workers were definitely biased and that based on MY personal experience. I only gave 1 star bc it was needed to leave a review. I wouldn't recommend the place for this reason! Poor customer service and biased workers clearly!!! Fast forward I came to dine at IHOP much bigger establishment and much more busier than this place. Seated at a table of my choice and PERFECT customer service. Choose...
