Alchemy Lounge and Cigar — Restaurant in Knoxville

I am writing this review as a patron beware announcement.

My boyfriend and I went out for First Friday downtown on 11/01/24, and before we called it a night, we stopped into Alchemy Cigar Bar. It was a nice enough place, and we enjoyed our drinks. My boyfriend had two old fashions, and I had an espresso martini and a secret recipe drink (gramma's apple pie old fashion), that's what the bartender called it. It was good for sure, but when we were leaving, we paid cash for the tab. We had to give a card to start the tab, but paid cash to close out. Monday morning my boyfriend noticed that his card was also charged for the bill. When he called to talk to the manager about a refund it got sketchy. The manager (we assumed because he did not identify himself) talked to my boyfriend and got the details of the evening and said he would call back. Well, he did not, my boyfriend had to call him back and the guy; who has yet to tell us his name, confirmed our story and that a refund will take a week or more. My boyfriend said swiping a card for a refund does not take more than a day or two, why the week or two? So, my boyfriend says, just let me come by and give me my $100 dollar bill back and call it a day. The manager says no, he cannot do that and that he will call back. At this point my boyfriend asks what his name is, and he says Dan. Well, a week went by and guess what, you got it, no phone call from Dan. So again, my boyfriend calls him back. It has now been a week and a half since all this started. Dan finally says on 11/13/24 we can come by the bar and get a check he has written for the refund. Still though, why can we not come swipe the card for the refund? Anyway, we go down there, and there was no check there for us, and a different bartender just gives my boyfriend a $100 out of the register and a $25 gift card for the "inconvenience". However, just a week ago this was not an option. So long story short, the place is not bad, it could use a little better ventilation, but do not pay with cash if you have started a tab with a card. I can't say enough good things about Alchemy. From the moment you walk in, you'll feel relaxed in the dark, cozy atmosphere. It's not difficult to tell the place was designed by a professional. The dark walls and exquisite woodwork make you feel like you're being hugged the whole time. Whether you're sitting at the bar or in one of the cozy overstuffed leather chairs, they've put a lot of thought into the decor and the intimate spaces here. If you're looking for loud, rowdy sports bar, this is not that. Perfect to take your friends or your lady. You'll notice the smoke eaters here actually work! It's not an overly large lounge, which is a benefit you'll also quickly notice. The humidor isn't overly large, but they have a good selection of the cigars you like, and they're adding more all the time according to the staff I was able to chat with. Crystal and Josefin were awesome and very attentive to all the guests. The bar is well stocked with a good selection of bourbon, rum, whiskey, vodka, and gin.
