This place screams coffee shop as soon as you walk into the place you can tell they're going to have at least pretty decent coffee. I first ordered a shot of espresso. The shot wasn't sour but it was a tad bitter on a scale from 1 to 5 on bitterness I'd give it a 2, it was definitely a solid shot, not real impressive but solid. I was impressed by the choice of coffee beans they were using, which most coffee shops who carry counter culture usually pull big trouble which in my opinion the flavours are just to round and chocolaty to be really enjoyed. The espresso blend they were pulling is called hologram and on the other end of the espresso flavour wheel it is quite a delightful experience. The shot was chocolaty, nutty, slight sweet with hints of citrus and blueberry, it was very nice indeed. I also ordered a cortado which was absolutely perfect. First of all they used the right size glass, the milk was steamed to perfection, the latte art was a delightful touch as well, flavours were on point. Overall Old City Java isn't following a coffee trend they're just making coffee right. Definately a place I would recommend for all walks of coffee people from inexperienced to...
Read moreI fell in love with this place. I was greeted very kindly and warmly, and was able to look at the menu. It wasn't too large or overwhelming and they had more simple options. They had around 5 different flavor options, the ones you normally expect. They had a wide variety of different types of coffee and some really good looking pastries. My coffee was made quick for only one person working and it was pretty good! It was also quite affordable based on other independent coffee shops. I believe my latte with almond milk was $6.20 for about a 20 oz. I'm in love with the cozy atmosphere, they have a mini library, beautiful windows and a rustic feel. tables are plenty, but spaced well in a smaller place. There are two rooms, so different options. It's a very quiet coffee shop, great for conversation or study. overall, I will be...
Read moreI am new to knoxville, and Old City Java has been a place of great comfort amongst the unfamiliar. As I have been getting settled into the city, Old City has always been a place where I can sit, relax, and enjoy a good ole cup of Joe. i would describe old city java as a lifelong friend you just met. Its very warm, relaxing, and fun. Am I in love with this friend? We aren't sure, and I cannot let these thoughts back in, as I have a wife and kids back home. I always enjoy time with this friend. They are kind, they are thoughtful, and they seem to know me. I really have a hard time knowing if this is truly platonic, or if there is something more. i am scared to ask, as I don't want "us" to end. maybe i'll get over this one day. maybe this will be my biggest regret in life. All I plan to do is stay here, and enjoy every...
