Today I decided to order takeout from SAMs sushi in la Quinta which had always been one of my favorite places to eat in the valley. I called in and ordered and my husband picked the food up. Our total was close to $60 which for sushi is a great deal! When we started to open the food we realized they had forgotten all of our sides of rice and gave us two orders of shrimp tempura rather than the mixed tempura we had ordered. Which was an extra up charge. Since we live 20 mins away and it is over 110 degrees outside I decided to call them and let them know about the issues. I spoke with a female manager who was sweet as can be and she told me that she would talk to her boss and call me right back to let me know what they could do to make things right. I waited 45 mins and still had not received a phone call back. In the mean time we began to eat our meal which was for the first time ever awful! Besides the missing food the beef teriyaki was dry, the edemame didn't have any salt or flavor, the eel nigiri was full of bones and missing the eel sauce, and the sushi was chewy making most of our meal completely inedible. I have never been one to send food back or ask for compensation but this was pretty terrible. I called them back again and asked to speak directly to the owner I was told he was very busy and I said I had no problem waiting on hold until he had time to speak with me. After a short hold he came on the line and as I began to explain the above information he laughed at me and was so rude cutting me off before I had a chance to explain everything he shouted "$25 store credit for next time that's it I'm too busy for this" laughed again and hung up on me. I didn't expect or try to get a free meal but I did expect to be refunded for the food that was wrong inedible and missing which I didn't think was asking too much. I am so disappointed at how disrespectful the owner was and how terrible the food came out. That is the last time I will ever go there again they can keep the $25. I guess that's why the sister store couldn't keep its doors open... Well that and...
Read moreWe dined on one of our hotter days in the valley this summer, so the AC was having difficulty keeping the restaurant cool.
Service was awesome, and our waiter had zero issues taking our order. Our food was made correctly to our order. I had the 3 dinner special with pork katsu, teriyaki chicken, and veggie tempura. My platter was on point and very appetizing. The pork had a fried breading and soy sauce based glaze. The tempura was yummy and came with several types of veggies (brocolli, green beans, asparugus, potato, squash, and carrot), and the chicken teriyaki was of great quality white meat. My only suggestion would be for the white rice. The texture on the exterior rice ball was hard, or maybe it just went stale, because it wasn't as sticky or fluffy as I've had at other sushi restaurants.
They have a nice variety of unique sushi rolls to compete with other sushi spots in the valley. I'd definitely recommend giving them a try if...
