I am a Philadelphian. I have eaten the Sacred Sandwich in many towns all over the East Coast, and in a few places out here in the West. Never have I been satisfied... well, not entirely satisfied. As a result I've had to make allowances, mostly concerning the quality of the bread. But then you realize that just because somebody got the bread right doesn't mean the sandwich is going to be fantastic. I would point to the Great Western Steak and Hoagie company on Lincoln as a prime example of this oh so sad dichotomy.
Philly's Best not only got the bread right, they got everything right. I got a 12 inch steak with provolone fried onions and fried hot cherry peppers.
(sniffle)
Now you must understand if I tear up a little here, but it has been a good long time since I've had a good steak.

I was there earlier and complaining because I had to wait almost 20 minutes and I think they forgot about my order. They apologized and gave me my food and money back. Anyway I felt bad and realized that is not their fault. They were doing their best and they were actually super fast but store was full at lunch break and only 2 employees?! I have eaten a few Philly Sandwiches when visiting PA. This place is the next best thing in the so cal. Every time my brother comes to visit from college.
