I'm so glad something is replacing Jeri's and reactivating this corner! I've never been to Alexander's in Andersonville so I don't have a comparison, but while the food was good, I think they have some work do on their Front of House experience... even for a diner. I stopped in here on a Wednesday around 3p and it was quiet with only one other customer. The staff that greeted me was friendly and offered me any table. After I sat, they asked if I wanted coffee, and I asked for a menu and some water which had to be brought to me. After a few moments someone asked if I was ready to order and a server was deployed to my table. She didn't offer any recommendations or explain the specials. I ordered the Chicken Breast Melt which came with fries and soup. The Chicken & Rice soup was great. Hot, good flavor in the brother, and just the right amount of chicken. When the sandwich came I was surprised to see it with bacon since there is a Chicken Breast Melt w/ Bacon on the menu for a higher price (I was not charged extra for the bacon and was correctly charged for the item I ordered). Nevertheless, the sandwich was hot, fresh, and super tasty! The fries were also hot, but unsalted. It came with a side of pickle and cole slaw which weren't too much to write home about except that the slaw was also unseasoned and packaged in a plastic container which wasn't appetizing. As I sat eating, I noticed some other inconsistencies in the experience such as unfinished looking decor and a Specials Board tucked in the corner, small and hard to read. The staff also seemed in total disarray with no one really having a clear job function mostly just meandering about. As I neared finishing my meal, my soup bowl was taken away and got a refill on my water, but no check. After I finished I signaled for the check and asked if I was supposed to pay at the counter. I didn't get a clear answer and I as I got up to check, someone brought me the bill without explanation but it does have the QR code to pay. Before I could use the QR code someone came over with a handheld device to take my payment, so overall kind of confusing and not well coordinated amongst the staff. Again, I am so so excited for these folks to be here and everyone seems very nice so I hope they can get some stuff figured out and make it easier for customers to...

I ordered the #1 gypsy skillet with no mushrooms and, to my surprise, it came with a side of either pancakes or toast, as well! So, naturally, I got the pancakes. My food was fast and fresh. The skillet was good, but I prefer more cheese so next time, I'll ask for extra cheese. The pancakes were so good! They were just the right thickness and were fluffy and flavorful. Honestly, the pancakes were the best surprise. I didn't expect them to be that good! The service was fast, but not rushed. My server, Citlali, checked in on me just the right amount of times. She also asked before refilling my coffee, which I appreciated.
The bathroom is all the way in the back. There's a single stall for each binary gender and they're super clean. The only thing missing is a purse / coat hook.
Now on to the cons. Don't worry, they're petty and don't impact the rating because they aren't a big enough deal to me.
The prices on the online menu are different from in person. The menu I downloaded from their website for the LS location has the Gypsy Skillet for $13.50 and on the menu in person it was $14.75. It's not a huge difference, but the prices should be updated to match. On that note, the online menu doesn't state that the skillet comes with your choice of toast or pancakes which could be a selling point that you're missing out on.
Now for the biggest con: the coffee was bad, and that's putting it nicely. I'm not a coffee connoisseur and I didn't have high expectations, but if you're a coffee lover, I don't...
Read moreI ordered the special on the board that was just labeled "Salmon Benedict" with no description. I assumed this was like all the other salmon benedicts I've ever had in my life. The server didn't provide any kind of heads-up saying that it was a "salmon patty". My partner ordered the ham and cheese club but asked first what was on the club. The server was confused and asked, "you mean what comes on the side"? He said no, ON it. He responded saying, "oh just ham and cheese". So my partner ordered it. Food finally comes and my "salmon benedict" doesn't look like salmon. So I asked him about it and he said, "oh it's a salmon patty"...no where on the board or when I ordered it, did anyone mention that it wasn't going to be actual pieces of salmon like a normal salmon benedict would have. He asks me if I wanted something else and I turned down the offer because I was starving and already waited a half hour for our food. So with an open mind I try the salmon patty...it was disgusting. It tasted nothing like salmon. It tasted/looked like a really gross version of a crab cake. The poached eggs were over cooked and were basically just hard boiled. My partners sandwich came with tomatoes on it that he had to pick off. That is why he asked what was going to come on it...he wanted to know if there was anything on it that he didn't want. If the server would have mentioned the tomato, then he would have told him, "no tomato". So he had to take apart the sandwich and pull all the tomatoes off.
And also... it's WAY too hot in there! Turn on the AC! My partner wasn't feeling well...
