I am really upset. Did not customize as we discussed.
I ordered a custom cake and spoke directly with James the baker. I told him I wanted the lemon cake with citrus frosting and was very specific about the decoration and frosting.
I stated I wanted raspberries in a circular format around the cake and he agreed to make roselles and place the raspberries on top in a circular fashion around the top of the cake along with candied lemon slices and lemon citrus frosting.
When I arrived the raspberries were not decorated how I requested and the worker had to call James. He provided a discount so instead of $66 it was $56 and added a few raspberries around the cake but he said he ran out of candied lemon slices so they couldn't add that to my decor which is stupid since that's what I paid a custom cake for, specifically for the rapsberries and lemon decor since that was the theme of the cake!
I also requested yellow writing instead of pink and confirmed with James and the writing was in pink not yellow!! On my online request form I submitted I initially requested pink. I also sent an email that same day with these specific customization requests. I took it a step further and called the bakery too when I spoke to the baker, James, on the phone, I asked him to switch the writing to yellow instead of pink to go with the lemon theme and he said yes.
I even confirmed twice with him to make sure he had the customizations correct and he said yes. There is absolutely no excuse for the cake not to be the way I requested. It goes to show his lack of attention to detail and not really listening to customers and their requests that's the whole point of a customized cake.
I took the discount he offered over the phone to his employee who then relayed it to me and left with the cake bc I had no other option. The dinner event was the evening of and it was too late to get a cake elsewhere with the same decor/theme. However, I was disappointed again! When we got to the dinner, I cut one slice and tasted the frosting and it was vanilla and not a citrus frosting as I requested!!! We ended up not eating the cake bc some of my family members dislike vanilla including myself which is why I requested lemon citrus frosting! It tasted nothing like citrus or lemon, tasted like vanilla.
Super upset about this bc I literally wanted to return the cake but it took me an hour to drive to that bakery coming from the south loop of the city. I was not going to drive an hour or more back to return it. I was exhausted from the long drive to begin with and to have to deal with this really was aggravating.
I basically paid $56 for a cake we could not enjoy! I'm extremely upset as I was very clear as to how I wanted the cake to be decorated and frosting to be lemon citrus.
I will say that the inside of the cake did have the layer of raspberry preserves as i requested so basically that's the only part of the customizations that he got right. Everything else was incorrect.
I even went over it twice with James on the phone and he confirmed he had everything down; also sent an email the same day I spoke with him on the phone so to have this many discrepancies with the cake and not get exactly what I requested for this customized cake is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable!!!! I feel as if I was robbed of my money and I work very hard for it. If he was a true professional he would refund me my amount to my credit card and take the loss. He did not give me the cake I ordered and he knows it! Truly unprofessional.
Also, when I spoke to him on Monday, he said I'd get an invoice in two days which would have been Wednesday. Come Thursday evening no invoice with the price of the cake. So I called Thursday and they said I'd get it that evening sent to my email. I didn't get the invoice until the day of pickup Saturday at 9am. Which further demonstrates his unprofessionalism, if you say you will do something than follow through!!!

First, we were able to do our tasting in the shop alongside some close family members. They provided an assortment of cake, frosting, and filling flavors for us to mix and match and try out. It was such a fun time and really helped us narrow in on what we wanted for the big day. Second, Rayan and James worked well with our wedding planner, caterer, and venue to ensure the logistics were sorted out clearly. We didn't even see them during our wedding day, but they were able to move the cakes in quickly and efficiently. Not to mention, they did a wonderful job addressing our request for something simple and delicious. All of our guests raved about how tasty everything was! We've used them for other occasions before and we're so glad we were able to book them for our wedding. 10/10 - will work with them again...
Read moreWe chose Chicago Sugar Daddy for our wedding cake and loved how it delicious and beautiful it turned out! We got to try so many delicious flavors of cake for our tasting and got to take all the leftovers home (and ate all of them)! We loved so many of the flavors, we ended up doing 4 half sheets of different flavors and a small 6" cutting cake for us. They were super accommodating with allergies and dietary restrictions which was fantastic and made sure everything was well labeled and presented beautifully. Our guests loved the cake and we loved how beautifully our cutting cake turned out! The team is a little hard to get a hold of at times, but they were good about making any updates we needed to our contract and worked well with our caterer, coordinator and other vendor teams. We will definitely be back to the bakery to indulge in the delicious baked goods and be reminded of our magical wedding!
