I was pretty disappointed with the way this bar handled the World Series events and some of their staff.
We waited in line for about an hour to get in the morning of Game 3, and then the door guy stopped letting people in completely because they were "over-capacity." However, even though they were "over-capacity" and there was no cover charge to get in, the door guy let about 30 of his friends in and let people in who offered him money. This same employee then looked at all of us waiting and said something like "they don't pay me enough here to not accept bribes."
So, after waiting in line for two and a half hours, we eventually get in. Everything went well until about 6-7 hours later after the second inning - several employees started walking through the bar and tried kicking myself and all of my friends out because the fire marshal said they were over-capacity. While I appreciate the work of the fire marshal and the safety of everyone inside, the whole problem could've been avoided if the bar had taken more responsibility, particularly of its staff.
It's disappointing that some of this bar's staff takes public safety only so far as the cash in their pocket, and then tried to cover for it hours later by kicking people out who had already spent hundreds on drinks and food. This irresponsibility means I will probably never return to this bar again, even for a regular...
Read moreMy family drives 3 hours into Chicago every year for a Cubs game, and Murphy’s has always been our first stop after. That tradition ends now.
I was standing at the bar, waiting for a drink. Not talking. Not causing problems. I have a neurological disability that makes me move when I stand. It’s not loud. It’s not disruptive. And it’s not something I can just shut off.
Gabby, the bartender, stared at me and said:
“You know it won’t get you a drink any faster.”
I hadn’t even spoken to her. Then, while I was having a conversation with another customer—not even looking in her direction—she cut in again:
“If you keep it up, you’ll be kicked out.”
Kicked out for what? Existing? Having a condition she didn’t like?
That’s not just bad service. That’s discrimination. That’s ableism.
Murphy’s doesn’t get to hide behind “it was a misunderstanding.” It wasn’t. This was targeted and intentional.
If this is the kind of person they choose to keep behind the bar, they’ve already shown what they stand for.
If you have a disability—or just basic respect for people who do—you should think twice before giving this...
Read moreWent here for a private event. I have heard about Murphy's Bleachers, as it is almost legendary, and had a great time!
A must go to place if you are a true sports fan. They have an expansive collection of Sports memorabilia, something for everyone. This place has been here for a long time, almost 80 years.
You can come here before or after a Cubs game for a drink and some food. But, the best time to come is on a non-game day and a big plus is if it's raining. You will practically have the place to yourself, except for die hard regulars. It was a rainy day when we went here, we got to walk around the whole place and take in the atmosphere without the big crowds.
On busy days, the bar in the back is less crowded, head there to avoid the traffic.
On a nice day, grab a beer, A Chicago style hot dog, sit outside or head up to the roof top and enjoy the view of beautiful...
