I loved it there. Maybe the second-best meal I had in Chicago, and the first place meal cost A LOT more...The menu was inexpensive, authentic Mexican Street Food. And suh-weet baby jeebuzz was it good. Here's how good: While my wife and I were in Chicago, we had determined to go to a few Mexican places, as our city only serves up franchise menus, if you know what I mean. We had seafood tacos at another restaurant elsewhere in Chi-town, and a kind of avant-garde take on traditional Mexican somewhere else, but we knew we were in the right place the minute we walked in to El Burrito Mexicano, almost by accident. My saliva glands are working right now just thinking about it. We ate there before the game at Wrigley. Much mmmming and eye-rolling. Barely finished the meal, couldn't finish the crackers and salsa that came as a side with the order. Went to the game, didn't eat a thing because we were so full, and EVERYONE said the food at Wrigley was over-priced and awful. Went back and ate there again after the game. Didn't even come close to finishing the second time, took it home. Ate it at home, and it was still good. I had the Carne Asada both times as a burrito, but I can tell you just from looking around, there were no sad faces amongst the patrons, and everybody was working earnestly on their food, and it ALL looked good. Yummy, yummy, yummy. Seriously considered driving out of my way to go there one last time on the drive out of Chicago for road food. Highly recommended for the menu. Unless I'm mistaken, everybody used a shared bathroom at the back. It could use...
Read moreOkay in a pinch. There aren't many options for late night food during the week in the area when it's not Cubs season but I'd stay away from el burrito Mexicano if you can. I went tonight as I was in desperate need of some grub and didn't want to walk all the way down Clark st. I got a chicken burrito dinner, which you'd think would be amazing considering the name of the place...
The dinner costs a little over $10 and comes with two tiny sides (rice and beans) that I watched being reheated in the microwave. The burrito is bland and my first bite I gagged because of the amount of salt. Even as I write this my mouth and throat are screaming for water. The burrito is a pretty good size, but the burrito on its own is $4 less than with the sides so I'd go with that if you're even thinking of trying it. Literally the sides were like 1/4 cup each. Definitely not worth it.
Again, if you're in a pinch and everywhere else is closed or you're really drunk and hungry then this will suffice, otherwise the Taco Bell down the street has better food... also a place that has two microwaves set up on the main counter probably isn't going to be serving he best food..just...
Read moreFood and service was great. Vegetarian Burrito was a solid 9/10. Hit the spot for late night cravings. The beans and rice were fresh and not too oily. The tomatoes and lettuce were crisp and fresh. Salsa platter was very authentic. Chips were crispy and not too oily. The front cashier was friendly and asked if I wanted everything on my vegetarian burrito. They honored my request to remove the cheese and sour cream to make it a plant-based vegan burrito. I cannot confirm if the beans were made with lard of the rice was make with chicken bullion though, for true vegans. Although it did not taste like it had lard in the beans. The general restaurant was clean, although the bathroom could use a little freshening up. Overall a great experience I highly recommend this authentic Mexican food that has healthy vegan burrito option. Burrito would have been 10/10 if they added a couple mushrooms in there. I’d pay another $2 for...
