This was a gift for my MIL since she loves Belgian beer and has wanted to go for.a long time. The restaurant is clean and has cool pink elephants above the bar. The service was great and the owner stopped by several times to check on us.

So the food is good, not overly impressive but priced reasonably. The beer I had was the peche Mel scaldis and it was perfection. The left hand milk stout was very good. My husband enjoyed his 3 beers and pretzel. The fish and frites was pretty good too. Fish was fresh and not dry or mushy.

My only negative is with the menu. It’s a barcode and his MIL is in her late 70’s and doesn’t have a smartphone. I’m early 50’s and the dim lighting doesn’t help with trying to see it without zooming constantly. They had one paper menu. I understand not having to clean dirty menus is a bonus, but at least have maybe 5-6 for those who can’t see as well. I’d also love to see prices on the beer menu. We were surprised at how expensive they were, $14.50 / 8oz for my husband’s. If we had prices we would have chosen differently because we were very surprised.

Overall the beers are truly amazing and the experience was positive and I’d definitely go back. The owner even posed for a pic with my MIL who was a total fan girl for Bert. It...

We had high hopes for Bert and the Elephant, but unfortunately, the experience was a letdown from the moment we walked in. We waited 20 minutes just to get our drinks, which set the tone for the rest of the evening.

When our food finally arrived — mussels and fries — both were barely warm, as if they’d been sitting out for a while before reaching our table. Lukewarm shellfish is not only unappetizing, it's a serious concern.

To top it off, the owner, Bert himself, came by to ask about our meal. I told him honestly that the food was cold, and his response? “I appreciate the feedback!” No apology, no offer to fix the issue — just a dismissive brush-off.

Also, our server never came back to check on us. We checked out with the lady server and tipped her just because she was so apologetic.

Safe to say, we won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for good service, hot food, or a staff that...

Let me start by saying that I was a fan of Bert’s from the original location. I had a lot of questions as to how the whole concept would translate into a downtown location.

Turns out that the answer is perfectly.

Have been three times since the opening and each time has been better. The food has steadily improved (and it was good to start) and the beer has always been first-rate.

What sets it apart is Bert. He’s so welcoming and professional and is always quick with a recommendation and truly wants you to have a memorable experience. His enthusiasm is also apparent in the courtesy and professionalism of the staff.

It’s a totally different vibe than Tellus or Annie Baileys, but that’s the real appeal. You can enjoy a good beer and not have to scream to be heard over Bud Light chugging bros.

Keep up...

NEEDS SOME FINE TUNING. Stopped for dinner and was not very impressed. This place has to settle in to their new home. The beer was good, don’t get me wrong. The place is a lot smaller than I assumed it would be. The atmosphere was lacking as the music was very low which promotes lower conversations. We walked in and it felt like everyone was whispering to each other. It needs to feel more like a Belgium Annie Bailey’s. The bathroom doesn’t even have a mirror! The staff seems like they are learning the rhythm (to be expected) but don’t seem to have too much serving experience. Got the smash burger and it’s not really a smash burger. Smash burger are usually on a potato bun and don’t have lettuce/tomato. Alter that and you’ll be good. I would come again in 1-2 months to see if they have settled in a bit better.

I took my husband here for his birthday and have only positive things to say. The food is fantastic, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is quaint, clean, and cozy. It may not be the cheapest, but it's not bad given the portion size, and it's worth it given the high quality of the food. My husband got the Beef Carbonnade and I got the moules frites - both of which were perfect. The Belgian beer selection is diverse and having a different glass depending on the beer is a nice touch. Personally, I also appreciated that a portion of the proceeds from certain beer is going to the fight against breast cancer throughout the month of October. Overall, we would rate this a 10/10 and highly recommend a visit for a unique, high quality restaurant in downtown Lancaster.
