Dale gave us one of the best tours we have had in a long time. He was very knowledgeable, engaging, entertaining and one could tell he was passionate about his home town area and the wonderful traditions, history and culture represented by the Mennonites and Amish folks. We received detailed and up close experiences on five separate Amish farms and home places not frequented by the big tour companies. What a great time talking with and getting to know a little about each family. We also managed some amazing home made ice cream from one of the local dairy farms and watched as the cows were beginning their afternoon milking! Our trip ended with a brief stop at a country roadside produce and hand craft store. Absolutely no pressure to purchase anything but I had to try a home-made whoopy pie and some soft pretzels bathed in butter! We felt like we had a much better understanding of the Amish history, their cultural, educational, dating and religious beliefs and many fun facts about the “plain people” and their perception of “the English” that they graciously share their world with. I would highly recommend spending the extra bucks to take this excellent tour. Keep in mind this is not a farm animal petting zoo or a commercialized kid friendly Disneyland like experience. Our sons at age 2 through 8 would likely have found much of this to be too much like history class. Our sons 10 to 18 would have thoroughly enjoyed parts of the experience and tolerated the rest. As young adults, college age and up, they would have loved the experience. If either had been a history buff in high school then this would have been like striking gold! Last note, we felt comfortable leaving our camper van in the Lancaster Tourist Center parking lot ( were the tour starts) while on the tour and the Ford transit van was smooth riding and well air conditioned...
Read moreThis Amish tour was an unparalleled experience that offered not just a window but a doorway into the genuine essence of Amish culture. For those seeking to understand and connect with the Amish community on a deeper level, this tour is a masterpiece of cultural immersion. It's a journey we will cherish forever, filled with memories of authentic encounters and newfound appreciation for the simplicity and depth of the Amish way of life.
My only critique lies in the tour's singular focus on the positive aspects of the Amish lifestyle, without addressing some of the controversies and challenges inherent within this way of life. For instance, the experience of being LGBTQ and Amish is a significant issue, with the community's traditional values often clashing with the identities of LGBTQ individuals. Addressing these and other controversies would have offered a more balanced view and added a layer of authenticity to the tour. It would help to see the Amish way of life not just through rose-colored glasses but also through a lens that acknowledges its complexities and the challenges faced by those who might not fit the traditional Amish mold.
The tour was an unforgettable experience that allowed us to connect with and understand the Amish community's way of life on a deeper level. However, a more nuanced discussion on the diverse aspects of Amish culture, including its challenges, would have made the tour even...
Read moreSooooo happy I picked this experience to visit part of the Amish Comunity at Lancaster, PA. I went with my daughter and boyfriend and we all loved it. Our guide Dale was so fun , communicative and full of knowledge. I was running 5 minutes late and he even made me a courtesy call, also the bus is clean and he is a unique gentleman. You can tell he was a teacher, there wasn’t one single question he didn’t answer. It was amazing!!! How can someone could hold so much precious information and details. I never see something like this. We got to see how the Amish’s live. Even meet them. Spend quality time with the animals , and even pet them. I’m so grateful and amazed. In one of the stops, I purchased a nice bracelet made by the little girls of the family. Mines says “Serenity” my daughter’s say “Hope” Everyone was so sweet and approachable. Is unbelievable!!! We enjoyed a delicious ice cream from their very own creamery, ( I choose peanut butter swirl) on a waffle cone. 😋 Be ready to enjoy yourself and have a relaxing day, amazing views and last but not least , my respect ✊ to the Amish Comunity. I didn’t want to leave!😩🤣🙌 It was an unforgettable day for sure! We will be back!!!! Blessings to all the people involved to make it happen. What you doing still reading?? Lol Go see it yourself! Absolutely no...
