I'll admit to being a coffee snob. I got hooked as a little kid, taking sips from my father's abandoned mug of cold Folgers he'd leave on the living room coffee table.
Now I'm an old man and along the way, I've had coffee from hundreds of shops and bean roasters. I love seeking out independent coffee shops in any town and trying what they're brewing. Also along the way, I developed an intolerance to caffeine and had to switch to decaf coffee. Ha ha, universe.
It took a long time to find decaf coffee that didn't just taste like a shadow of what coffee should be. I tried A LOT of brands and beans and thought I'd just have to settle for meh coffee -- until I tried Motive Coffee's decaf roast. The roast is perfect and, incredibly, it tastes like actual coffee. Motive not only has the best Decaf Columbian Roast out there, they have the best service and style.
Their subscription service is stellar. Every couple of weeks, like clockwork, I get a box of freshly roasted beans with a nice note from Jeff, a touch I always appreciate. The communication is great -- I alway know when the beans are on the way and if something happens to delay them -- which is almost never -- Jeff lets me know.
It's the freshest, most amazing tasting coffee you'll find. I use it to brew drip coffee in the mornings and to make espresso on the weekends. I'm sipping some right now, which spurred me to write this review. Thanks, Motive, for roasting the best decaf beans anywhere and for getting them to me so reliably. Take...
Read moreThis is hands down the best coffee roaster in town. After moving back to Laramie from Denver, my partner and were struggling to find quality whole bean coffee. We have always enjoyed Laramie's local coffee shops for their quaint hipster vibes, but have struggled to find a roast that fulfills what my coffee pallette desires. After moving to Denver, I started making coffee at home a lot more and discovered some truly incredible shops who roast their beans with care and precision; honing in on the true science of coffee's notes and undertones. This past weekend we happily discovered Motive over on Ivinson. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Jeff who treated us to a free cup of Joe and was so incredibly refreshing to talk to. We went immediately down to the co-op to buy his Ethiopian blend for our hot summer day cold brew, and I must say it's an 11 out of 10! Stop on in Monday through Friday 9-5 to grab a nice bag of whole bean coffee from Jeff. He truly knows what...
Read moreJeff's Motive Coffee is truly a hidden gem worth exploring. It was my first trip to Laramie and I didn't anticipate finding an independent coffee roaster in town let alone one with the talent and warmth of Motive. Not only was a hot black cup of his light roasted Ethiopian the perfect comfort on a blustery late spring day, his gracious and engaging demeanor instantly made me feel like family. He kindly neglected his roasts for a few minutes to regale me with stories of what draw him to this passion. Can't wait to grind a bag of Jeff's Guatemalan roast to share with my wife when I return home. If you haven't visited Motive yet, you are...
