The food at the establishment is good, just a little pricey. The problem for me with this place is the service and I’m not sure if I’m going to continue getting my vegan sushi from Daikon. The service is usually good here, but recently I have been getting the same employee to take care of my orders. I asked this employee for his name and he said it was Franny or something similar (not exactly sure if that’s right, but it sounded like that). Everytime I placed an order over phone and recognized his voice, he put in the wrong phone number for my order. I never had this problem with any of the other employees. One day, my mom asked if we had any rewards to redeem with the phone number I had been using for over a year to place my orders. Franny accused us of using different phone numbers to place our orders (which I’m not sure why we would even do that or what we would get out of that because it’s not like we got anything free the first time we placed an order). When we came in to pick up an order today, Franny was already showing my mom and I attitude when we came up to the counter. We were a little bit early and he seemed visibly annoyed at us. When we called in the order this time, we used my mother’s phone number that we used to use years ago before Franny kept messing up the number for the order when I started using my OWN phone number. The name under the number was our last names rather than our first names, so Franny was getting very impatient with us when we tried picking up the order with our first names rather than just trying to communicate with us calmly. He seemed irritated with us for being early and told us to move out of the way for another customer only two seconds after we asked about our order, not even giving us time to move out of the way ourselves. He seemed irritated with my mom because she was standing up rather than sitting while waiting for her food. She was NOT in the way of any customers— we were on the side of the establishment and there were no customers after us. The food took longer than they told us it would take. Franny asked me a question about how much soy sauce I wanted and I didn’t hear him the first time. When he repeated his question he made a face at me like he was irritated, rolling his eyes at me.
The other employees have always been nice. It’s just this one that has been giving us problems continuously. Will probably be getting our sushi...
Read moreMy daughter was visiting during college winter break, and she is (sadly) a vegetarian. It's tough for me because I'm definitely a carnivore. I try to be accommodating, but I've never had good luck with meat substitutes. NEVER. But Daikon came recommended, so I thought my wife and I could take my daughter there for a try.
TLDR; This place is GOOD! If you like sushi, you won't be disappointed at all. I was quite honestly surprised. I came in wanting to hate the place, but I left loving it.
The place is unassuming. It looks like a standard take-out/sushi joint from the outside. When we walked it, we were immediately greeted. (I already had a reservation.) When our host/server sat us at our table, he could see the look of distrust on my face. He asked if this was our first time here, and then he pointed out some menu items that were the top ordered items for the past month per their stats.
We all shared a few apps and rolls. You can never go wrong with edamame. The crispy spring rolls were good with some of their sweet sauce on them. We got the spider roll (which used mushrooms in place of fish), the caterpillar roll (which used tofu and seitan to replace the fist), and the black garlic roll (same tofu/seitan mix). We loved them! If you're new to sushi, you might not even notice the difference when you add some soy sauce and wasabi. I'm really sensitive to fish and fishy smells/tastes, so this was a nice change of pace for me.
Once we were done all of that, my daughter and I then split an order of sesame "chicken" rice. The "chicken" was chunks of seitan. I must say that they did a good job here. I've had seitan before, and the texture is not the same as chicken, but the preparation was really flavorful and spot on, and it did not have any sort of off flavors that you would expect when getting a meat substitute.
Too often, meat substitutes try to mimic the meat texture and flavor, but they fail miserably. Rather than trying to mimic the meat, Daikon replaces it with something else that doesn't even try to mimic the meat, and that's what makes this good. No Beyond Meat brands or some black bean substitute. I think they did a really, really good job here.
Highly recommend if you're looking for something...
Read moreEdit on 5/28/24: We just had to come back here a second time before heading home! This time, we ordered the Seaweed Salad and the Vegan Sesame Chicken. The seaweed salad was perfect, not sugary or overpowering and a nice size to share with someone else. Now the Vegan Sesame Chicken was just as epic as it gets! I love Sesame dishes, so I have def ordered many from all over, over the years. The sauce was not too sugary or corn syrup drenched and had a wonderful spice. The “chicken” was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a nice chew to it. Easily my favorite sesame dish I’ve ever had anywhere! We had some leftover and it was even great cold. I will for sure tell my friends to stop here if they are ever in Vegas. Thanks for such fantastic vegan food! 💜🌀💚🐻🧡🐮💛🐠💙🪼🩵🦀❤️
WOW!! I love this place! Really nice vibes in here and our server was so excited to hear it was our first time in. We came in for my birthday and I cannot believe how bomb the vegan sushi is here! I’ve had vegan sushi all over made with your basic vegetable ingredients, but what these guys are doing here is just over the top! Not to mention, prices are very fair. There are so many unique ingredients being used here to veganize all your non-vegan favorites from the past. I personally have never cared for real sushi or anything out of the ocean before becoming vegan 15 years ago, but I had such a strong desire to try out their vegan “fish” sushis. I have never wanted to try everything on any vegan restaurant menu before coming here! Even non-vegans will love this place! There’s even several vegan “eel” sushi rolls which is just wild to me! We ordered the Spicy Edamame and another 2 piece Starter I can’t remember, but both were delicious. For sushi, we ordered the Spider, Volcano and Tropical Dragon rolls. Holy cow, just incredibly tasty! The flavors are a soft explosion of deliciousness that left me wanting more. For drinks, the Thai Teas which were just perfect. Really wish we were locals because we would hit this spot on a weekly...
