It is no wonder why this place was ranked Best of Vegas at least four times. I am ranking this restaurant on the following five criteria: Food Selection, Food Quality, Service, Environment and Price. Food Selection - 5: like most Mediterranean cuisine, there is a beautiful balance between vegetable dishes, meat dishes and a balance of both. I will recommend that if anything comes with baba ganoush (which is mashed fried eggplant) GET IT. The great thing about Mediterranean food in general is that it is has flavor and is seasoned well. That means, if you want to avoid flavorless food meant for senior citizens, you have come to the right place! The online menu should speak for itself. There are recipes with shawarma and there are simple recipes with meat and rice. You won't be disappointed. Food quality - not only does the food taste good and is fresh, but they give you large portions - even for lunch. Since half of your order will most likely include some sort of vegetable prepared in a certain way, that will always be fresh. On my last trip, I invited my brother to eat there for lunch for the first time. I ordered the meat combination including the Kibbi - a small ball of meat the size of a toddler's fist which is made of ground sirloin and cracked wheat which is stuffed with a little bit of lamb and onion inside - and the Sujuk - a spicy beef sausage (not too spicy in my opinion. Like a 1 or 2 for those of you who have gone to Thai food restaurants). My brother ordered the shawarma. Although, I felt that my meat portions were a little small looking, I still got ridiculously full because of all the side vegetable dishes. My brother, on the other hand got a plate that was 1/3 shawarma which is a LOT because they don't serve food on regular round plates. They serve food on those long oval platter type plates. You really need to be hungry before you come here to eat because you will be getting a lot of food. Service - I've been here twice and I have only seen two service staff. Both of these people have been beyond exceptional when providing service. Both are energetic, optimistic, and very positive. I have not seen a situation where they had to address an irate customer or a poor order and truthfully, I never see them write anything down as they appear to have all of the dishes memorized. Every customer is treated with respect and they will literally conversate with you until you feel like everything is right. My only complaint, like most of us customers, is that it takes a while for the food to hit your table. However, if you bring the right company along or don't mind web surfing on your phone for a little bit, that may take your mind off of your wait. Environment - Khoury's cleanliness is usually 9.9. the only reason that I don't give them a perfect is because there are just small things that are difficult to take care of with a small staff. When you are seated, you will notice that the tablecloths are actually large pieces of thick paper. This is a good idea for a restaurant because instead of having to reuse a cloth towel, the paper tablecloth can be quickly removed and a new sheet of paper simply put on in seconds. On both of my visits, there was a little bit of oil or some kind of stain already on the paper, but it was never significant enough to really complain about. Also, when it is really busy, the restrooms might overflow with paper products coming out of the trash can, so I believe that the community of customers that comes to visit must be helping to keep the restrooms clean as they are using them (hopefully) otherwise the service staff here are miracle workers! Finally PRICE - as I was scanning the menu, I remarked to my brother that, "We ain't getting out of here without dropping 12 or 13 dollars." However, the food quality is so awesome, you completely forget that you have to pay for it. This place has been a multiple Best of Las Vegas award winner and it shows. If you are a foodie, you absolutely must come here and enjoy the food and...
Read moreLastnight was the first time of going to this restaurant. It was recommended to me by a friend. My cousin was craving good Mediterranean food, so I was like why not. As we entered the restaurant was quaint and looked presentable. We stood by the hostess station for a few minutes, the lady in a white shirt noticed us but ignored us and continued to help the seated guests. Then finally a nice woman in a black shirt asked if we were helped and handed us a menu. After looking through the menu my cousin finally decided on what she wanted. So the woman in the black shirt took us to the cashier area to take our order. While she was taking our order, the lady in the white shirt (she wore glasses , on the hefty side, and have glasses) was so rude and didn't even say excuse me and told her to stop checking us out because she 'doesn't like for her customers to wait for a check'... In my head I was like what are we?? And then she was rude and pushed that girl to the side after she voided our order and the woman in black told her "she's ordering" and the lady in the white shirt was so rude and talked down to her and us and said "well she doesn't care. I think she doesn't care! What I say goes..." So from that comment I knew immediately she was either an owner or a manager. After that experience, the woman in the black shirt was nice and pulled us a chair. While we were sitting there all she did was whine and complain. My ears were literally hurting from her negative behavior.
I have never experienced such verbal abuse to other employees and to waiting customers. I honestly think the woman in the white shirt was racist, only helped people that were blonde or looked Caucasian. She seemed to treat the people with background that is different of her own with such distaste. After that we got home and glad we didn't have to sit through being around her negative aura.
I can't believe I gave them a 1 star but I did because there was no other option. The food was mediocre for that type of attitude. Kudos to the women who wore black t-shirts and have to deal with the woman in the white shirt everytime...
Read moreI think wholesome, just like home, and only the best ingredients are used too freely at Khoury's. I ordered the Fayter/spinach pies and the meat pies, you get 5 for $9.00, approx. My Lebanese friend that dined with me, explained that Fayter, means fresh kneaded dough that you allow time for the dough to rise, to get that soft silky dough. Well, my spinach pies were literally the size of your index finger (maybe smaller) and made from store bought puff pastry, so much for wholesome and just like home. They were greasy, and every time you took a bite, grease dripped down your chin. I believe they were frozen; it makes no sense if Khoury makes fresh pita bread, why not use the same dough to make the spinach pies. And it was absurd to charge $9.00, for 5 tiny pieces (and I mean tiny). My main order was the falafel wrap: the falafel was too dry, not enough tahini sauce, and the tahini tasted like straight tahini out of a jar, no lemon juice or garlic to taste. The traditional Tahani sauce for the falafel should be made with fresh chopped onions, diced tomatoes, lemon for flavoring, garlic, and a bit of spice. You get maybe 3- 4 pieces of falafel with fries for $13.00, approx., and if you want the falafel plate it is is $9.00, approx., for four pieces of falafel with some cucumbers and pickles (over priced). The falafel were made too thin to the point when you took a bite it scratched your throat... I am not sure why they serve broccoli with their kabab, not the best match. My friend ordered the lamb kabab and it was not edible, they use the cheapest cut of lamb for their kabab. Khoury's food quality started to decline even before they moved to the West Sahara location. Over priced, cut down on quality and portions. Never eating there again, I was so disappointed! I am guessing if you are used to fast and junk food, you might find Khoury's food delicious, I just can't comprehend the 5 star reviews for this over priced restaurant and low...
