Was not happy with the food at all. I’d come on many occasions and in the past was always pleased. They changed owners and chief recently and with that came a change in menu. I’m someone that is fond of change, but this was not for the better. Their ingredients were fresh before and had a unique taste and flavor. I was told o could get an item that was on the old menu and to my great surprise I was given a completely random item instead. If I was told at the counter where I ordered my meal that would be different. Then the chief came out to my table and said he would create a meal close to the one that was on the old menu that I was ordering in the first place. I made sure before agreeing that it would not be tomatoes based; sauce wise or that it would have sun dried tomatoes like the old menu item did. Yet again another surprise because he must not of listened to anything I said before agreeing to him making me a dish. The meal had no sun dried tomatoes, and the sauce was completely tomato based. Quite honestly it did not even have a good flavor or taste to it. Taste wise would have even enjoyed something from the can even better and that is not ok what so ever. Completely displeased. Then I asked to just get my money back because you pay first. Was then told that I wouldn’t get my money back in my account for three to five days. What company would be pleased with this item of having the customer leave like this is At complete dismay. So ended with I’ll give them a third try on this same sitting. I got some pesto dish that has peas and pistachios. There is no appreciation to flavor and taste in this meal, because it was completely greasy, overwhelmed with pesto that you couldn’t even appreciate the ingredients. Hence why you would have other ingredients to enhance and balance out your meal not quite as bad and flavor as the second dish, but at this point had to settle for it because I had a child with me that needed to eat and we’re now on our third meal. I have never had to bring back a dish maybe in over 10 years to anywhere so for me to go three tries and be displeased even on the third attempt is pretty horrendous. This third meal was so bad that it is only been maybe 30 minutes since I left and it is definitely upset my stomach Because it was so crazy and oily. I waited around and waved my arm at any chance when I saw the server so I could ask for a container to bring it home, hoping that I would be able to somewhat fix this meal rather than let it go to waste. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful atmosphere and I took the hour drive to come here. The server Jullian was great and very understanding and helpful and truly appreciated his help throughout all this matter, so thank you for that. I enjoyed this place now it’s ruined in my mind. Good luck, new business owner and a chef. Hope you keep your...
Read moreThis place, in Tivoli Village, is a little upscale ($) for my normal routine as a local, but a number of my family members, who have been in town a lot more often than usual due to a recent family tragedy, have fallen in love with it.
Therefore I have patronized this delightful café a number of times in recent weeks.
So far, the food is exceedingly tasty, without exception, although I haven’t sampled everything, obviously.
I have tried the omelettes, French toast, eggs Benedict, bagels and lox, fruit smoothie, mimosas, the frozen custard or ice cream, and a fancy latte.
The atmosphere is very chill and laid-back. It seems like a place to be seen, if you know what I mean. 😄 Parking is pretty close and convenient, and there is both indoor and outdoor seating—like a bona fide, genuine Italian bistro.
My family likes the fact that they can accommodate our party of 15 or 20 at times, (outside). Inside, there are not tables to accommodate an extra large party.
This is not a full-service restaurant. You order at a counter, and are given an acrylic table sign displaying your order #, to alert servers where to bring your food and drinks when they are ready.
I’ve been there I think 4, maybe 5 times total, and it’s never been NOT busy.
Three of the four times, 4 of the 5, I was there before noon, for breakfast or brunch— and one time, I was there in mid-afternoon.
The place was jumping regardless of time of day and the “wait” to order, ie. the line you have to wait in to place your order, can be 5 minutes, or 15.
And depending how many people are in your party, and what you ordered, the wait to receive your order can be 5 minutes or 20.
This place is pricier than an average restaurant, but the food is above average, so there is nothing to complain about. (The problem that I have is when I get food whose quality does not match its price).
For example, the (average-sized) mimosa, which is served in a small, narrow wine glass, and is composed of 50% orange juice and 50% sparkling wine, is $10 per glass. (There are no bottomless mimosas (ie. free refills) here—like on Sundays at Marche Bacchus 😬😁).
But again, this is a very popular establishment for a reason. I wouldn’t go there if you were in a hurry though, and if you have a problem with birds—a lot of birds— I think, crows, (at least, not pigeons) flying all around , and above you while you eat, and also walking around nearby chomping at the bit waiting for you to abandon a few morsels of your meal upon your departure, I don’t recommend sitting outside.
Sometimes, the birds don’t wait for you to leave to start trying to peck at, or nosedive into, your food. But...
Read moreThe reviews on this cafe are what initially led us to want to visit this spot; boy was that a huge mistake. It was a 35 minute drive from our home and we didn't mind because, again, the reviews and pictures made it seem like such a great local spot. We chose to go on a Saturday, 8am - early enough to beat the crowds. We ordered 2 West Coast Skillets and 2 regular coffees and sat outside. As soon as we received our coffees, we noticed there was no sugar at our table and asked the server for some and waited for what felt like an eternity, until my husband got up to get it himself. Minutes after the server came out with the sugar. Keep in mind, the cafe was not busy at this time, there was no reason for the wait, but eventually noticed she seemed to be very talkative with other servers. Our skillets eventually came out swimming in pools of oil. I've never seen anything like it and had to go to the counter to complain about it. We ended up ordering omelets in substitute of the skillets. We were trying our best to remain positive, but kept noticing there was really no sense of customer service or management. There were at least 6 servers roaming outside and nobody would make eye contact, seemingly to avoid having to help us with anything. The entire time we ate outside, not once did someone offer us coffee, although they would pass our table time and time again. We had to flag people down to ask for more coffee. The entire experience was a nightmare and completely opposite of what I had imagined. It seemed the servers were not trained enough and didn't know how to approach people and offer help. Although you pay at the register, there needs to be wayyy better management of what servers are doing and what comes out of the kitchen. It seemed they just take advantage of the location and don't care to put much effort in providing any customer service to keep customers coming back. We will definitely not be coming back and hope you're not persuaded by the surprisingly positive reviews. P.S. If you still choose to go after all this and sit outside, be ready to be harassed by all the birds waiting to pounce...
