Wow. What an experience at Subway: I posted this on their page this morning!
For my family, Subway was always a first choice when it came to eating at a restaurant. Your typical great specials, fresh food, and courteous crew members always made us want to return.
This morning , my African American husband went to a Subway on Deer Springs and Durango to order his daily breakfast sandwich before work. It was a bit cold outside, so, he kept his hoodie on. After he entered, he was not greeted by the customary " Welcome to Subway". Instead, Alice ignored him and proceeded to walk around the building. My husband attempted to place an order, and he was continually ignored. Alice then rudely told my husband "Take off your hoodie". My husband explained that he just wanted to order a $3 special and leave. He responded " For security , take off your hoodie". By this time, my husband was upset and decided that he did not deserve his business.
I was absolutely disgusted and shocked by the situation. I drove down to Subway to find out the employees name. Alice's shift had ended , but I did talk to a supervisor. She told me that since he works the night shift, he wants to make sure that he makes it home safe and ensure that he does not get robbed.
To imply that my husband , in any ways would interfere with ANYONE'S safety is outrageous. We have been upstanding, active citizens in Centennial Hills for years. My husband is one of the most gentle men alive. He is an amazing father , husband, and citizen.
It is quite obvious that Alice's actions were purely based on race. I have been in Subway with my non African American friends in the winter in hoodies and they were never approached. He was obviously feeding into the stereotype that all Black men that wear hoodies are "thugs".
If you have any type of policy that head gear can not be worn into a store, it needs to be standardized. Not, a case by case basis. Employees using their own discretion enforcing any type of rule is inviting people to take their enforcement personal.
With all this said, it is obvious that Subway will no longer be receiving any of my business. It is a shame that you must lose a valued customer based on an employees foolishness and racism.
Fortunately for us, we have much more lucrative careers than...
Read moreSubway shops have always been a fav - love their food. But, the staff at 6770 N. Durango, in Centennial literally "saved my life"!! I left my debit card in their store Wednesday 06/28. I didn't miss it until Friday 06/30 - but, I panicked! Wild thoughts ran thru my mind - possible fraudulent use, the horror of having to cancel the card on a 3-day weekend - on the 1st day of the month, no less - and, being in a "money limbo" until I got a new card. Well, I backtracked my steps on the 28th, went into the store; and, lo and behold!! Chelsea and Manny found my card in a stack they keep of lost/left behind cards. Other customers have left debit/credit cards before, so my card was there - just "cool chillin".... Thanks guys, you saved me days and days of agony about my lost card. Thanks, too, to the staff person (#9617) who found it/put it in a safe place, too!! I appreciate your honesty and integrity. Plus, our sandwiches đ„Ș were excellent!đ...
Read moreI generally come in at least weekly, sometimes multiple times a week, and things are always great as far as food and service goes.
Today though, I made an order through the app, and picked that up, and saw that it wasnât made to my order preferences, and let the person at the front know to see if it can be remade. She argued with me, saying âwe donât have that breadâ (Italian bread, the bread that literally 99% of people order), and then when I said âI ordered it on the regular breadâ (rather than the flatbread), proceeded to say I entered it wrong and shrugged about it. Okay.
The sandwich was also haphazardly put together, with barely any sauce and the black pepper I asked for missing.
I probably wonât be coming back. This made me extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed, despite my order clearly showing what I asked for, and it being a quick...
