In business, leaders often spend countless hours strategizing on how to build loyalty, create culture, and retain customers. But sometimes, the best examples aren’t found in boardrooms, they’re found in local businesses that quietly get it right every single day.
For years, Wahoo’s in the northwest has been one of those examples for me. On the surface, it’s a bar and restaurant. But beneath that, it’s a masterclass in culture and consistency.
The wait staff don’t just bring food, they bring it with genuine smiles, even on the busiest nights. The bartenders aren’t just pouring drinks, they set a tone of authenticity, hard work, and care that no manual could ever teach.
What makes it work? They’ve built a culture where people matter more than transactions. They don’t need to know my name, but when I walk in and hear “It’s Happppppppy!” that’s connection. That’s culture. That’s leadership at its purest.
The lesson for all of us in business: culture isn’t created by slogans or policies. It’s created by people who show up every day with heart, consistency, and pride in their work. When you empower a team like that, loyalty takes care of itself.
And a special shout out to three people who make Wahoo’s feel like home every single time: • Marissa – my favorite part is seeing your smile and that hug I get every time. • Sarah – thank you for always taking the time to talk with me and never minding my endless cat stories and updates. • Jena – words can’t describe you… just keep...
Read moreOk where to start... the one we went to had a separate bar that we didn't go in because we had our baby with us. We thought it was a family restaurant and it's really not. The side kids can be one is more like fast food. We ordered about 60 bucks before not including tip. One of the dishes that I was told was great large and filling was disgusting. Pretty sure they were pork and beans on rice with a few pieces of steak for spicy beans I would expect pinto or black not canned pork n beans so that was gross and a waste. Now the fish tacos was pretty good however they only give you one thin small tortilla ummmm it's so messy and falling apart because it requires 2 tortillas that you might as well put it in a bowl and just chop it all together. To say I was not impressed and wont go back for those reasons alone. The service was nice but to charge $1 for a sauce to go on your taco is kinda stupid. Facility did seem clean thou. Prestantation on food was nice so point for that. Ordered a fry guy said it was big it was a child's size portion. Bowl tasted yuck tacos were good but...
Read moreWahoo's is one of those restaurants where you stand in line to place your order, then sit down and wait for them to bring it to you. To my old eyes, I immediately thought that the prices were a tad high. But, after getting my food (a "Protein Bowl") and thinking about the contents (a nice service of many vegetables and two "proteins" (i.e., types of meat), I realized that the prices are reasonable. Also, though most people won't care about this, that "Protein Bowl" is darn near a Paleo meal (just ask them to remove the teriyaki sauce from the "Bonzai Veggies"). So, on the positive side, the food is reasonably priced, good, healthful, and served in an actual bowl with real silverware (I'm so tired of eating off/with plastic). On the less than positive side, the environment is very "food courtish" (cold, sterile, hard, and loud). Also (unfortunately), they serve Pepsi products and not Coke products (blech). On the whole, it's a worthy place to try if you're tired of the same...
