Very bizarre experience. We had gone there a few months ago and loved the place so we went back yesterday for a celebratory dinner. I think they must have changed ownership because it was a completely different experience. It still looks like Hook & Reel with the same decor but must be transitioning to a Chinese restaurant. We got two menus, one the nice seafood boil menu, the other a cheap peeling Chinese menu, in Chinese. There were signs up advertising karaoke and a "Ramen Bar", a new karaoke stage and cherry tree that was totally not in sync with the sharks and crabs on the walls. We were the first ones there for the dinner crowd and the last to get served. We ended up being the only non-oriental people there. Numerous families got there after us and were all served long before us. They all had very authentic meals being brought out. I must say it all looked delicious but incongruous to the atmosphere. We were informed that they no longer serve salads, though they have the soup and salad menu. My daughter ordered lomein and the waiter seemed unsure what she was talking about. They made her some kind of spaghetti sauteed in sauce. The boil was still good but it was apparent that the original "Hook & Reel" menu is now more of an after thought and not their primary menu. This is no longer a place for a crab boil. They need to just rename it and move on to officially making it a Chinese...
Read moreWORST EXPERIENCE EVER! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND WASTING YOUR TIME TO TRY THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL!!! One star doesn’t even satisfy my raw and uncut opinion for this disaster. We were seated by the hostess and had to wait on the server to accommodate us. After ordering a few rounds of appetizers we realized the food was mediocre and did not care to have the rest of the appetizers or the entrees. The server insisted that nothing could be done to remove a meal that I clearly did not like or care to consume. She also suggested that I take it home “to-go”. The owner then approached our table and inquired about our experience at the location thus far and proceeded to brush off my concerns or dissatisfaction that I voiced to the server earlier. The restaurant also falsely advertised happy hour drinks and did not demonstrate any type of decent customer service especially being a new branch to an existing establishment. The manager spoke to my table in a very condescending tone and i personally think that is an example of weak management skills. The hierarchy of this establishment is a complete joke and demonstrated nothing but incompetence and ultimately we were charged for items that were not eaten or liked. Based on my ordeal, it isn’t a surprise to me that they aren’t BBB accredited. Mr & Mrs Crab, Crafty and Cajun Boil are definitely places where you’ll get your...
Read moreTonight was my first time ordering from the Coral Springs restaurant. Let me start with the positive. The greeter was very friendly as soon as we walked in. Very sincere and happy to say hello to us. Other than that, that’s all the good. Now the not so good. My bill was $70+. I still don’t have a breakdown of what I paid for. Menu doesn’t have prices, neither does my receipt. The shrimp po boy was disgusting. Old oil, very soggy, too much lettuce, dry bread, Half quarter of the first half of it, two bites, stopped. Very bad oil aftertaste. My son’s shrimp boil was hard and rubbery, no lemon pepper flavor at all, just a bag of oil. I asked when I ordered for extra cocktail and tartar sauces. When I arrived I asked again for extra the two sauces and was told by the not so friendly cashier, ‘it’s on the order slip, it’s in the bag.’ When I got home there was one tartar sauce container in the bag with about a tsp worth of sauce in it. That’s it. No cocktail sauce, no extra any sauce. For a first impression of a new restaurant in busy Coral Springs, it’s not very promising on service or taste. And I wish the receipt had a website for a survey on it instead of my rant here. I’m hoping I’m allowed to save this review with no stars because adding one star would be too many, but I guess I have to put one. That one star will be for...
