Firehouse Subs Broadway Village — Restaurant in Lawrence

When I arrived, there was one group of four sitting at a table, snacking on chips and sipping on their drinks. They had already ordered and were waiting for their sandwich. One other person was leaning on the high top by the window waiting for a carry out order. I walked past the customer waiting on their carry out, right up to the order counter. I made it all the way without a shout of their warm greeting (Welcome to Firehouse!) that I’ve become accustomed to. There was no one in line. The employee behind the register looked up from her phone and begrudgingly left the counter she was leaning on to take my order. She was friendly during our interaction. After I paid, I picked out a bag of chips from the limited selection (compared to what they have had in the past) and filled my drink cup. None of the tables had been wiped clean, so I chose the least repulsive table and took my seat. After 5 minutes of being seated, the customer waiting for take out finally had his food. After another 5, the group of four had their food. Five minutes after that my name was called. I went to the counter and was given a box covered in remnants of sandwich makings and water droplets. I sighed and went and sat down. I open the box and a perfect pickle slice awaited me. After I consumed the pickle, I carefully peeled back the wrapper to reveal a non toasted sandwich. There was no warning or notice of them not toasting their sandwich’s anymore. If I had known, I would have chosen a different option for my dinner. I have made the decision to never go back. Within the last three months there have been lots of bad reviews at this location. Here's mine:

Ordered my meal about 30 mintes ahead of time. Arrived at the restaurant to pick up my food 45 minutes later. No one working acknowledged I was there, all three employees were deep in conversation about something inappropriate. 10 minutes later I hear my name only to learn from an employee that they were out of my type of meat? Employee offers a refund or different food. I opt for the refund and I'm informed that none of the employees working knows how to issue a refund? Not their fault but completely on management. So one employee calls the manager to ask how to issue a refund because they ran out of meat only to have the manager inform where the meat was. Seriously? Horrible management. Your people don't greet customers, don't know how to issue a refund or know where the food they make actually is in the store? Employee apologized and said the food would be ready in 8 minutes... 20 minutes later my food is ready... after several other orders were made? To top it off the food was cold! Ha! Insult to injury whomever cut the sandwich cut it into completely ridiculous portions, one was 90% to 10%. I know I probably sound like a crazy person but I let all of this slide. Don't think I'll be back for awhile. Stinks because I have a bunch of...

Hubby is a BIG fan of sub sandwiches. Me? Meh, not so much but I've been wanting to try this place so after and eventful trip to menards, off I go! It's an ok place. I mean, it's got some ambiance but it's a sub shop so it's not going to be covered tables, low lighting, etc. Plenty of industrial tables and chairs though! Greeted immediately and gave my order to a cheerful young man. I ordered a club sub to go. The place was semi busy- it was 1230pm. 2 other people were waiting for their to go's and mine was done about 10 minutes later. Not too bad. Got home and scored MAJOR wifey points for the sub! It's piled ridiculously high with several meats, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, etc on whole wheat! You can even request the bread slices be hollowed out if you don't want the carbs! That's pretty cool!!!! The sandwich itself hits all the buttons. It's delicious! You can taste every meat and the lettuce isn't soggy, it's crisp as are the tomatoes! Usually sub sandwiches are a soggy mess by the time I get home. Not this one! Hubby was rapidly approaching sub coma deliciousness and it makes me so happy when he's happy! All in all, great place to get a sub. 4 stars on the atmosphere as it's just a bare bones place and that's ok! BUT! there is NOTHING bare bones...
