Rose & Crown — Restaurant in Lewes

My wife and I had started frequenting this place even though the food is mediocre at best. At least they weren’t crowded and we really liked their hummus and chips. Today we stop in from a bike ride and order the hummus to go and added a cheeseburger & fries as well since we hadn’t made plans for dinner later on. First they come out with the cheeseburger and fries on the plate and the bartender has to take it back to the kitchen make it to go. Then he comes out a few minutes later with the entire order bagged to go. While he’s ringing us up I go in to grab a couple of fries and opened the container on top which was our hummus but I noticed that it had all this extra stuff in it and when I called him over he says he mistakenly put in for the Mediterranean Plate by mistake. So my wife and I said we’d try it but could he just add the olives which is what made this do good. He offers us bar olives which I tell him aren’t the same thing so he goes back to the kitchen only to tell me that the cook won’t give him/us the olives because they don’t go with the Mediterranean plate. I asked him if he’d explained that we had ordered the hummus and chips which is $6 less and that it was their mistake and he said yes he had. My wife didn’t want me to make a stir so we just left...

We had a reservation and arrived on time. We waited about 10 minutes after being seated and the hostess finally brought some water. It took several more minutes for the server to appear. He seemed annoyed and rushed. Very Curt. My diet soda has no flavor and I asked to exchange it and he seemed put out. One of the people at our table ordered stuffed shrimp, it came out cold and uncooked. Not exactly stuff shrimp, but more crab with some shrimp in top. The waiter made a big production about them making a whole new meal. It was returned after the rest of us were almost finished, not a new dish but the same food (tail from one shrimp that was eaten before sending back still included). Our drinks were empty most of the meal - we were never offered a refill. At the end we were presented the check and were surprised to see no discount on the meal that was served cold and uncooked. No manager came by to apologize, nothing. The other two meals: Filet was over cooked and fatty and salmon undercooked in the middle. We got three burgers, shrimp scampi and crab dip as an appetizer. The food was pretty good but the rating of 2 reflects the overall experience.

On a Friday night the parking was bad, we parked 6 blocks away. We were seated immediately as we had reservations but it then took 10 minutes before we got any menus. Another 10 minutes after that he comes to take our food order and he was about to leave when we reminded him that he still hadn’t taken our drink order.

The drinks take forever to come out and one of them is incorrect. A half hour later our main meals come out with no appetizer. Three of the four meals they got wrong and one meal had so few fries you could count them with only your fingers. It took so long to get the food that we ate what were given and didn’t return anything as we didn’t want to wait even longer. Then halfway through our meal the appetizer comes out, the crab dip was good but they gave us two different chips and one kind was stale.

Maybe the server or the staff was having a bad day, would be open to trying again since the food was actually not bad but our experience on this night...
