Okome Asian Grill & Boba Tea offers a fascinating concept reminiscent of Chipotle but with an Asian twist. Here, you can build your own bowl by choosing your base, protein, and toppings. This approach allows for a customized meal experience that caters to individual tastes and dietary preferences. The prices are very affordable, and the portion sizes are generous, making it a seemingly good health-conscious option.
However, despite these appealing aspects, my visit was disappointing. The overall cleanliness of the establishment was lacking. Some of the containers holding the toppings were not behind glass, which raised concerns about hygiene as they were exposed to potential contamination. Additionally, it appeared that the toppings had been sitting out for a considerable amount of time, contributing to a less-than-fresh appearance.
Compounding these issues was the unavailability of many toppings and sides. When I requested noodles for my base, I was informed they were out but had some cooking. Unfortunately, the preparation method was quite off-putting. The staff member took the noodles directly out of a bowl full of water that the noodles had been cooked in and placed them in my bowl without any further preparation, which felt unhygienic.
While the concept and affordability of Okome Asian Grill & Boba Tea are commendable, the execution falls short in crucial areas such as cleanliness and food preparation. These shortcomings have unfortunately overshadowed the potential positives of the dining experience, leading me to decide...
Read moreI donât usually leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience. Our office ordered takeout for about 10 people from this place. While I had never eaten here before, two coworkers who frequent it helped us navigate the ordering process.
I opted for a bowl with fried rice and chose a half-and-half protein option with chicken and shrimp. I followed their advice on toppings and sauces, selecting teriyaki and garlic yum, since I hadnât tried their sauces before.
Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. Although the base price was $9.99, my bowl ended up costing $18.28âand it wasnât worth it. The portion of protein was extremely small, while the bowl was overloaded with corn (uncharred) and green beans. The fried rice was almost nonexistent and what little was there was soggy and flavorless. The vegetables lacked seasoning, and overall the bowl just didnât come together well.
The chicken seemed more like slimy skin than actual meat, and the pineapple was dried out and unpleasant. I managed to eat less than half before throwing it away.
Between the high price and poor quality, this was a major letdown. I wonât be ordering...
Read moreJust wanted to add an update. Okome still is (& will probably always be) our FAVORITE restaurant in Lexington, however..... $1 for just 1 half of an egg (the new Ramen eggs)??? That's a bit too expensive! My fiance & I did try them yesterday and they were 5/5 stars DELICIOUS, however, it would be more realistic to at least have 2 for $1, which is 1 whole egg for $1. It's just too overpriced, but it is definitely worth adding to your rice bowl at least once!
No other suggestions - We are some of Okome's most frequent diners since moving to Lex last year! LOL
Also, ALL employees there are absolutely wonderful! All are very kind, polite, great you with smiles, and just make the atmosphere even better than it already is.
Keep up the...
