If you're in Lexington and scrolling for a good latte, stop because this is the best in town. I can say this because I've been here at least 70 times.
Old School has a large menu of specialty lattes. I like the art teacher (lavender + honey) in summer and the Cuban latte in winter. And yet, I rarely order these because I usually prefer whatever the drink of the week is. Old School is a rare coffee shop that routinely strikes a good balance between espresso and sweetness, so I trust them. They've basically been right 99% of the time.
For context, I like my coffee less sweet. If you prefer really sweet drinks, they have frozen options that are also good.
They have standard cafe fare, including croissants and baked goods from La Petite Delicat in town and Spalding's donuts on weekends. Nice for a quick breakfast or snack with your coffee.
As for the spot, it's very cool. I'm not 100% up to date on the history, but I believe it was an early Lexington schoolhouse and it has feminist ties to the American revolution. It is, if you will, an old school.
The cafe is a nice place to get work done but spots fill up quickly, especially when UK is in session, so prepare to sit in the atrium. There's plenty of free parking right next door and in the lot across the street.
Oh, and how could I forget? Everyone working here is great at what they do and so fun to chat with. Great for recommendations and always ready to...
Read moreYou're gonna love this place if you are generally into new age hipster aesthetic. Cool architecture, reformed schoolhouse turned work/living space. The coffee is just okay but you're paying for the vibes so who cares? I personally like a medium to light roast and for their drip coffee I wasn't offered any choice besides their house which I'm thinking was a medium to dark roast because it kind of tasted burnt. I don't think this is the fault of the brewing method but I do think it is the fault of the roasting method of the beans. I wish they had more than one option for the drip coffee, I also wish they had a pour over option. (Just little ways I can see them improving). Overall if you want decent coffee for a decent price while not having to wait in a long line at Starbucks and support a local business then this is the place to be. I won't make this my favorite coffee shop but I can see why people like the vibes. God speed fellow humans. P.s. the wifi when I was there wasn't great but it was also very populated with a bunch of people and their laptops so most likely it was a issue of mass connection slowing down the playback speed of my...
Read moreOne of the BEST coffee shops in LEX! Why? Outstanding coffee and stellar service. Rhett, owner, takes great pride in sourcing the right coffee bean and teas (from Danville) for his customers. He is engaged with each person who walks in Old School. And, has created a welcoming and open environment for coffee and tea lovers to sit back with friends, hold a business meeting or do your own thing (at the long bar) and enjoy a cup of delight anytime between 6-2 pm every day of the week. There’s WiFi too, so bring your laptop and work away....if you want. Check out the drip of the day - which Rhett rotates out regularly. His specialty coffees like “The Teacher” or “The Coach” are mouthwatering. If you want something to go along with your cup of choice, he has Spaulding donuts and toasted bagels on deck. To top it off, the shop is in a former Lexington city school from way back in the day! This place is a MUST visit. Go and enjoy all that it offers. You will not be...
