"No Unhappy Guest, Not Even One"..Unfortunately, this slogan did not apply to my service that I had on Sunday evening Sept 3rd at the Hamburg location. Where do I begin?? Before we even got our food..there were 6 things that happened that didn't make us happy. To start off with, I asked our server if they made frozen drinks (I'm finding out that alot of places no longer have a blender) and he told us "Yes, we sure do..however, we can't serve draft beer right now because it's not working right and the draft beer is warm" (Problem #1, because my son wanted a draft beer) So I ordered a Pina Colada and asked for a water, with lemon. My son ordered a bottle Miller light. The server comes back and brings my son a Heinekin (Problem #2) and tells me the bartender said they ran out of Pina Colada mix (?? MIX??), gave me a water with no lemon (Problem #3) and asked if I wanted something else. I told him I would like a frozen Strawberry Daiquiri then politely asked him to bring a lemon for my water. Before he left, we put in our order for an appetizer - the Nutty Honey Butter Croissants with candied pecans. He asked us if we wanted the pecans on top and we said yes. Just a few minutes later, he came back with a plate of plain croissants - no honey, no butter, no pecans (Problem #4) and STILL, no lemon for my water. Then he tells me the bartender can't make a frozen strawberry daiquiri because they don't have the "right ingrediants" (Problem #5). At this point, I think it was safe to assume they didn't have a blender and the server didn't want to admit that (since he told me from the start, that they did) so he was making up reasons..then proceded to ask me if I wanted any other drink. He kept trying to push us to order some end of summer blue slushie drink made with moonshine that was not on the menu. I told him I don't like moonshine, but I would still LOVE to have some lemon for my water. My son said since he was given a beer he didn't order, he would try the blue slushie moonshine. The server comes back with my lemon (finally) and hands my son a glass jar with a PINK slushie mixture...(problem #6) so we askef him why it wasn't blue like he said. He said "I'm not sure" (We just gave up on ordering any more drinks at this point) then we put in our order for our food. After he left, my son took a few drinks of his "blue" moonshine slushie and said..."if there is moonshine in here, it's the weekest moonshine I have ever tasted" so I tasted it, and I'm almost positive there was strawberry wine in the drink, because there certainly wasn't moonshine! He didn't drink it. Then our food came, and thank goodness everything was good with that. Then our bill came and my entree was $3.25 higher than what the price on the menu was and my son's entree was $4.80 more than what the price on the menu was. My son said "Mom, just pay the higher price, if we take the time to tell him, he'll just tell us some story and we'll end up paying that price anyway, so just save time, pay the bill and let's get out of here" In summary, the entrees were good but I don't think our server knew anything about alcohol. And I still don't understand why they have that slogan if they don't do anything to make the unhappy ...
Read moreTo set the stage, I moved out of state and had not dined here in years. After all this time, I still remember the house salad and croissants. They were as good as I remember! We splurged on the fried mushrooms and they were outstanding. But our service? Less than impressive. The hostesses were courteous and friendly. Our first waiter was quite friendly, although we had asked for a sample of dressing he forgot to bring. We were dining at an odd time in the afternoon (2:30 or so) and there was a shift change. We were not alerted to it, we just never saw our orinial waiter again... I had wanted some other condiments, but no one came to the table. My friend and I had not seen each other for several years, so we lingered over our meal, chatting away. (Note, the restaurant is a little loud, so it was a challenge for us to converse. But that didn't stop our reunion!) Our new waitress finally approached, "Are you together or separate?" Those were her only words to us. We were still eating and had been planning on dessert. The restaurant was largely empty, but I guess it was time to go? We were still nibbling when she returned with the check. She took a few empty dishes from the table, and before I could stop her she grabbed the remaining dishes that still had food on them, including the mushroom basket (for which I was waiting to ask for some ranch...) I said, "Wait, we aren't done!" But by that point it was too late. I just shrugged and said "I guess we are now. I guess we're leaving." I pulled out my credit card and paid the bill. The food was delicious and my friend and I were having such a wonderful time catching up. That waitress did not deserve the tip we left. (I didn't want to stiff the first waiter, and I don't know what happens at shift changes like that.) Our waitress was not friendly or attentive to her customers, and made us feel unwelcome. I am sure that wasn't her intent, but it's how we felt as we left. We went and had dessert and coffee at another restaurant. I won't let it tarnish my memories, but what a...
Read moreI ate at Rafferty's for Sunday dinner with my sister.
We ordered batter fried mushrooms as an appetizer. I haven't stopped thinking about how delicious they were! She ordered 1 sandwich enormously stacked, steamed broccoli and ice tea came to $25 and some change. I ordered chicken fettuccine with cheese/bread sticks no drink, and came to $25 and some change. I can't really say much about my entree because I ate very little (was almost ready to pop after the mushrooms). My sister enjoyed everything especially the mushrooms. She didn't have an easy time with her sandwiches (she has small hands) but she was determined to eat them both! She ate the broccoli at home later that evening, said it was cooked her way. The portions were over the top. We could have ordered 1 entree and mushrooms and shared it cause what we ordered was enough for 2-3 more people.😳
I have to give a shout-out out to our server Savannah. She was a trooper and very patiently waiting on our order when my sister was stumped to see the pork chops she had her mind set on didn't come with gravy. Savannah said no gravy in any shape, form or fashion with pork chops ( also informed my sister what day of the week they would have an entree with a sort of gravy). We had a good laugh at my sister's expense well she laughed too at herself.
I can't wait to get back to Rafferty's. My sister said the next time we eat out I will choose, so unfortunately it will be too soon to revisit one of the best restaurants in Lexington KY!
I want to give 2 head bows from me and my sister to all persons involved in the preparation of our divine Easter Sunday meal. We...
