Curious and surprising little sweets, cocktails, and coffee shop down under. The Rabbit Hole Bakery is a surprising find a few steps down from street level in the middle of the Lincoln, NE Haymarket District. At first glance, this is a perfect stop for coffee, cocktails, and to cure a sweet tooth among the bustle of a busy weekend of events and restaurants in this great entertainment district. The service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable, and there is a decent amount of seating in the small space. The menu of in-shop sweets is good and varied, running from the expected to the unexpected. Scones were perfectly made with firmness and level of sweetness without being too crumbly or too sweet. The avocado brownie is an interesting eye opener. The cocktail and coffee offerings are a welcome surprise for a small shop. Additionally, their web site shows they do occasion cakes and other customer orders beyond the first glance of an evening visit; they have a good web site that’s worth checking out. The prices were a little high but reasonable for the quality and specialization; overall, I rate The Rabbit Hole Bakery as a good value for premier location, great service, interesting and diverse offerings, and decent prices. A recommended stop in the Lincoln...
Read moreYa still have to be first in the door to get their brownie edges. Their browies seem to make it till the end of the day regularly. Wish they'd consider leaving the edges and corners on or start using the smaller pans to make more brownie edges deliberately.
Tried three of their pies for the first time at Thanksgiving. Got rave reviews for both the apple and sour cream raisin. Your grandma might be able to bake ya a better apple pie but she would probably never top their sour cream raisin pie even on her best day.
Their sour cream raisin is probably the sweetest most delicious pie you'll ever eat but also the best looking whole pie you'll ever buy. The mountains of perfectly browned meringue peaks on this little gem will almost make you feel guilty for cutting into it.
Their pumpkin pie was a head scratcher. I can only assume the baker who made this one either ran out of all the needed seasonings and made it anyway or hates pumpkin so much they have never tasted their own work. Everyone tried it but no-one was impressed. They all agreed anything from the freezer case or just making your own would have been a better choice. While the pumpkin certainly looked nice and was cooked evenly center to edge the pie...
Read moreThe lower level location, cozy/moody vibes, an Alice theme that was endearing but not cheesy or over the top in any way - all won me over immediately. The space itself and the bathrooms were clean. The pricing is a little high but is generally in line with other bakeries in the area.
My favorite item was the Lemon Tart - the lightly toasted meringue, the creamy lemon filling, and the crisp tart shell made for a delicious combination.
The French Macaron shells were strange - wrinkly and cracked - but the lemon flavor was nice.
The Vanilla Cream Puff was a bit overwhelming and difficult to eat. The puff itself was tasty but the cream filling as not as sweet or as vanilla flavored as I expected.
The Tiramisu Tart was just alright - the coffee filling overpowered all other layers.
My least favorite was the Confetti Cake Trifle. The frosting was good but the cake was extremely mushy - almost as if the cake was soaked in something before being assembled into...
