I am writing this for the benefit of other travelers. The good and the bad of my stay at Embassy Suites, Lincoln. First, there is no handicapped parking close to the door unless you pay the $22.00 (plus tips) for the valet. BUT, there are two handicap parking spots across the street on P street not too far to walk (I am healing from a broken leg). First impressions can effect your whole stay. As I had just been to the hospital and my nerves were shot, all I wanted was a quiet room. Sleep was essential. Granted it was later when I checked in, (so quiet lobby) the bored girl at the desk was on her cell phone. Her non-existent welcoming skills rated a zero. I politely asked for a quiet room (one time at an Embassy suites my room was over the loading dock and noisy. So I ask now). The App. was not offering a digital key or room selection or check-in. She informed me she was putting me on the fourth floor and she said it to me in a take it or leave it voice. She had no care to listen to the customer (Diamond status at that), just " you are going where I put you so deal with it" attitude. I don't know where she developed her hospitality skills, but they are unhoned. Well, the bed might as well as been on the street. Right by an on-ramp and traffic light on 10th street. So loud. So no sound proofing I suppose. With approximately 170 other rooms, I am just so glad she put me in that particular room. And no, they weren't that busy. Since the main reason to stay at a hotel is for rest, I would recommend a room on the east side. The room and bathroom were very clean. I was provided plush towels and individual travel shampoo and soap. They do have the attached to the shower wall shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Plenty of hot water. The light around the mirror was very bright so bring your sunglasses. There is a nice coffee/tea bar provided. $5. Water available for purchase. No nice Embassy suites laundry bags anymore- just cheaper generic version now. Never was able to connect to WIFI. Not nice. Plug for my phone beside bed integrated Into the lamp. Nice. 6 pillows on the king bed. Safe in the closet along with bedding for sofa bed and iron with an ironing board. Ice machine on every floor, but of course, the one on the fourth floor not working. Kudos to the man who made my omelette, for he was a shining example of a fine human being. Embassy suites are known for their breakfasts. I loved their salsa and the grapefruit sections on the fruit bar. Leary of the communal yogurt offered (instead of individual cups) but good I suppose if you want to load up a big bowl. The girl at the desk upon checkout was a 100% turn around from the night clerk. She was a ray of sunshine. All that a company would want and expect to represent...
Read moreTo preface my review, I travel for work and lodge in the ballpark of 70-80 different hotels across the country in the span of a year. I have not been compelled to leave a bad review after years of work travel until now.
Bad experience starts with finding the parking lot for this hotel which is effectively hidden at the back of the hotel, across the street. After doing a loop around the block, I pulled into the valet area and set for a few minutes hoping that someone from valet would eventually come out. There was a couple of guys standing outside talking but they had nothing on them indicating that they were part of the business or in any way associated with the valet. I walked up to them and asked if they knew where the valet attendant was and they indicated that it was them. I asked where I could find the parking garage as there was no clear markers to its location. Alas I found out where it was.
Upon entering my room, I quickly dropped my bag off and rushed to grab some dinner as I had been traveling for nearly 7 hours and was famished. By the time I returned to my room it was already late and I was ready to hit the hay. However I was met with freezing cold temperatures as the thermostat was set to AC at 65° even though it's 30° outside. And even worse the horrible putrid smell of mold. Fair enough, not the first time I've dealt with either at a hotel. I went into the bedroom to unpack, and found what appeared to be someone's body molded into the sheets as if someone before me was assigned this room and noped out because of the smell- literal clear body outline in the sheets.
When I went into the bathroom I was met with mold in the shower, hair in the sink and a toilet that takes several attempts to flush. As I explored the room I found literal dust collections around the corners of the room a disgusting couch also covered in dust.
The general aura of the entire room and I'm sure the entire hotel, is extremely outdated. You have to walk around and click off seven different light switches before you're ready to go to bed, whereas much less expensive hotels will have the option to control everything from a single light switch or even the app.
When I finally got to bed, I was met with sheets that were so loose that they wouldn't stay on the bed. Pillows that were so matted that I couldn't get comfortable. And yet I was so damn tired that I couldn't pick myself up to pack everything up go to the front desk and ask for a refund to find a new hotel for the rest of the night.
In summary avoid this hotel like Hell's flames. I'm very confident that many of these positive reviews are bought with drink vouchers and Hilton rewards points. Because no one in their same mind would leave this place a...
Read moreSo, mostly an OK but not awesome hotel, with the exception of the air conditioning, which does not work. The AC uses motion detectors which are either defective or set so that they barely detect people, and on a hot day, the rooms get much too hot. That was the big problem, but also minor problems with free breakfast.
Details: I checked in around midnight, and there was only one person working, and a line of two groups ahead of me. Got to room, it was hot, set AC to min (65) went to sleep, woke up in middle of night, and it was still hot (maybe 72) Woke up in morning, still hot. Complained to front desk and they said they'd fix it.
Went to breakfast near closing time, and there was a long line for omelets (30 minutes?) and the buffet looked picked over and gross, so I had to go out for breakfast.
Came back in the afternoon, they told me that maintenance said AC was working, I told them it was broken and asked to change rooms, they told me to try again. Room was 73 degrees when I went in, and after half an hour sitting in the room with the thermostat at 65, it was 74 degrees in the room. Asked to change rooms again and they let me.
New room wasn't much better (72 degrees when I got there.) Eventually, I realized that the AC works, but only turns on when motion detectors trigger. If you're sitting still or sleeping, they don't trigger. Eventually, figured out how to trick them.
Since this problem was in two different rooms, and maintenance didn't fix it, and I see an old review (two years ago) mentioning this, I conclude that this is deliberate, and management is quite happy to roast their customers. DO NOT STAY HERE IN SUMMER.
Other minor problems. One day, buffet and omelets were great, but next day they ran out of forks and low fat yogurt, even though they weren't busy. No place to plug a phone in on one side of bed. Rooms look dated. An outside door that says "Use key to enter" but the key reader is for an old style magnetic stripe key - no way to get in that part of building.
Service was friendly, rooms were clean, location was great, plenty of good stuff here, but overall, the AC thing is a...
