This is a review that begins "Where to start...?" Well, for starters, we were seated and given menus. 30 minutes later, I snagged the hostess walking by and said that we were feeling pretty forgotten. She said, "It's because we only have two cooks." I pointed at my menu, but she just looked blank. So I told her that our order hadn't even been taken yet. She blinked and promised to send our waitress. At some point, we got drinks. Two people at our table got Dr. Pepper and I got iced tea. Eventually our order was taken and an hour after arrival we finally got some food. Of course our drinks were empty by then. For some reason, the Dr. Pepper guys were eligible for refills, but I wasn't. So I had to choke down my food with no beverage. Speaking of the food, most people at the table had nice plates full of food. I ordered the "Bacon Lover's BLT." This sorry little sandwich came on a plate with a handful of fries. It was half the size of the next smallest restaurant BLT I've ever had. Small bread, two slices of tomato (Roma sized.) Maybe a bit of lettuce, but not really detectable. I'm pretty sure that the waitress was getting revenge on me for being the one to speak up. At then end, she said something about pie. The three of us who ordered beverages (although I'm not sure iced tea counted) were supposedly eligible for a free slice of pie. The table unanimously declared that pie would be swell, but we didn't have another hour to sit around and wait for it, so we left. One thing a diner can't abide and that's a vengeful waitress. You just can't trust your food, and I'll never trust Village Inn again.
Edit: I'm in my 60's. This is the fourth time in my life the following has happened: I ordered a beverage with my meal and I didn't get the beverage. Once, it was a "bottomless cup of coffee" which turned out to be one cup. If I can't get a refill, then it's not bottomless, eh? So if an iced tea at the Village Inn is supposed to include refills, and I don't get refills, then I didn't get what I paid for. Manager's response: "We'll try to do better." Not, "sorry, here's your money back." Once you got your grubby little hands on my $2 or $3, you couldn't let it go. What other legitimate business takes your money, doesn't give you what you paid for, and then just shrugs like "these things happen." Your phony, canned response, which was copied from every other incompetent restaurant's reviews, means less...
Read moreI'm not a regular customer of Village Inn but I like their pies. I was craving for a pie so after my dentist appointment, I decided to stop by this morning to get the whole pie. I came in with another old folk who must be a regular customer I believed. As soon as he entered the old LADY on the front/cashier was greeted him by his name acknowledging his presence! Without a single word from that LADY, who actually saw me too, I came straight to the counter where the pies are and tried to decide which one I'm going to get. This old LADY just ignored me and did not even bother to ask me how can she help me. After a few seconds I have decided what I want to get so I stood in front of the counter to get their attention (this time this LADY is chatting with the other old lady). I have been standing there for a minute and waited to get their attention. Finally, a young staff from behind me came to the counter and asked me if I have been helped! I told him not yet! I asked him what is in the triple berry because I haven't tried it before. It seems that he's not sure about the kinds of berries that is in the pie so he asked the old LADY. I asked her (the old LADY) what would she recommend, just to have a conversation. She said the peach pie! So, I told them that I'll get the peach pie. I already had a bad impression on her then it pisses me off when she said if I WOULD LIKE TO GET A SLICE? This question sounded like an insult and measuring me up if I can even afford to get a slice!! I don't know what she's thinking of me. I told her, "NO, I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE WHOLE PIE!" She seemed very surprised!! This old LADY does have an EXTREMELY POOR customer service!!! However, the YOUNG GUY that helped me seemed to be very polite and...
Read moreVillage Inn has redecorated and is again open for business. The folksy, homey atmosphere has been replaced by a stark, black and white interior that is clean, but cold. Regulars will recognize most of the menu offerings. In this age of inflation, most of the changes are in the prices. I realize this is to be expected. My dining companion and I were not favorably impressed by the atmosphere. However, we are both older and neither one of us likes change. We also agreed that the service was not acceptable. Our server may simply be new, or just incompletely trained. We needed time to choose our meals. He left us alone for over 20 minutes without coming back to check on us. When he brought our drinks, he didn't offer straws. When he brought our meals, he didn't ask if we needed condiments or anything else. I had to find a host to get ketchup for my companion's hamburger. All on all, it took nearly 1 hour from the time we walked in for our food to be brought to the table. The food wasn't up to par. It wasn't as good as it was the last time I ate there. Some of the things that dissatisfied me may be temporary. Service and food quality may improve as the cooks and servers learn and mature. At this time, I doubt if I'll go back anytime soon. It was a...
