Opened in January 2025, 7 Moltin is the rare kind of restaurant where everything, from the salsa and chips to the empanadas and enchiladas, tells you someone cares deeply about the food. Every bite was made from scratch and made with love.
We started with housemade chips and salsa: warm, rich and layered with just the right balance of chilis. The guacamole was fresh and vibrant, with that perfect touch of white onion for brightness. Our drinks, the margarita and the “mezcalita”, were both made with fresh juices (no mixes here!), served with joy and you could taste the difference.
Standouts: the Camarones a la Diabla, where the shrimp were tender, marinated and kissed with just enough heat to keep you reaching for more. The empanadas were crisp and chicken savory, but the morita sauce/salsa stole the show - I even asked for extra to take home.
Chef Fernando came out to greet us and talk through the menu. His passion for the food and the flavors he brings forward was obvious - and matched only by the care in every dish.
After nearly 20 years of hunting for truly great Mexican food in the DC area, this is it. 7 Moltin is not just the best I’ve had in two decades - it’s the one I’ll be returning to again and again.
(Don’t let the fact that it’s tucked next to a Best Western fool you. 7 Moltin is doing everything to stand apart. The chef and team are building something...
Read moreThis is a hard review to write. I have been looking forward to trying it out and got the chance one day last week for lunch. We were seated immediately and there was just another group of diners in the entire restaurant. After looking at the menu we selected a salad, a burrito and 2 glasses of water since they did not have any diet/zero coke. The waitress informed us that salads and soups were not available which was hard to believe considering the limited menu. We changed from a salad to tacos and clearly stated No onions and sauces on the side! There was a definite language barrier preventing effective communication. Instead of 2 glasses of water we got 2 water bottles for an additional cost. The wait staff should have asked if we wanted bottled water or tap water. Once the food arrived it was covered in onions, which we pointed out and they took it back and picked the large red onion pieces out but left all the diced onions in. We were able to pick around the onions but it did not make the dish enjoyable. The burrito had great taste but it was mostly rice. For the price it should have come with sour cream and guacamole. I know that they just opened and most likely they are still adjusting so I will try them once more in a few weeks to see if some of the issues are no...
Read moreHaving been born and raised in East Los Angeles, I’m extremely particular when it comes to Mexican food—especially tacos. Too often, I come across tacos that barely scratch the surface of what real Mexican food should taste like. But 7 Moltin? This restaurant blew me away!!
From the moment I walked in, the smell of the grilled meats, the fresh salsas, and tortillas took me straight back to the streets of my childhood. The tacos were perfection—beautifully seasoned, perfectly cooked, and served on soft, fresh corn tortillas that actually tasted like home. The carne asada had that perfect char, the birria was juicy and flavorful, and don’t even get me started on the salsa—it had real heat and depth.
You can tell they put love and tradition into every bite. This isn’t just good Mexican food—it’s the real deal. If you’re looking for authentic tacos that respect the culture and hit every mark on flavor, look no further. They’ve definitely earned a loyal customer in me....
