Fun, cute, quaint & worth the stop. The building is so fun inside, it's like stepping back in time and the goodies are amazing. We started with an Old Fashion donut & for my old fashion longing friends out there you know there are good ones & there are bad ones. These were spectacular; so dense & moist. To pair perfectly with it, fresh coffee with unlimited refills. Then our omelets came. Perfect filling to cheese ratio and the sausage was tremendous! The seasoning was spectacular. Their omelets come with 2 large biscuits & hash browns. Be sure to ask for them to be crispy otherwise you may not be happy if you like some additional warmth & crunch to yours (like we do). The only draw back for us was the amount of food you get & the fact that we couldn't possible eat everything they gave us. We could have easily shared & we were grateful the have us a box to take it with us. We'll stop again on our way through!

We thought we would try Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant since they are on the old Route 66 which I adore. The food was pretty good. We really liked the steak fries. When you place your order and pay at the counter, they'll ask for your table number, so be sure to have that in mind before you order. Make the table is unoccupied! Their bakery case will filled with amazing pastries and desserts, we didn't try any of them. In May 1922, three brothers—Paul, Fred, and Albert Jubelt—purchased a bakery in the coal mining town of Mount Olive, Illinois, where bread was the main focus. They put in a lot of effort and found success. Sadly, Albert passed away in 1929, prompting Fred to launch a second bakery in Granite City. By 1935, the partnership ended, and Paul took over the Mount Olive bakery on his own. They decided to open a bakery in Litchfield which has been around for a long time. #route66

The food was just OK. Buiscuts were good, cheesey breakfast potatoes were good, everything else was meh or awful. Way too much salt in all the things, two of our 4 orders weren't "as ordered", $0.90 each for a big plastic cup of water. The manager needs to be trained, and the entire wait staff needs to be retrained. The restaurant needs to be completely cleaned from top to bottom, and a hazmat team is needed to remove the black mold from the ceilings. Even the toys in the coin-op vending machine were a disappointment. I wanted to give this place a break, being Mothers day, and busy. But it was woefully understaffed, with awful service.

We have visited Jubelt's a handful of times while passing through for breakfast and had a great experience so we decided to invite some family to meet for lunch (table of 5). We arrived around 11:45am and the place was packed, nothing uncommon as it's very popular! We found a table, grabbed a menu for a look, then jumped in line to order. We placed the order at 12pm and were told 45 min as they are busy. We understood and were fine with this. We placed a 20% tip at the time of ordering. We ordered an appetizer as they typically come out before your meal thinking maybe this would come out before the 45 min mark. Even if it didn't that would be fine, but still before the food. While we waited we watched table after table finish up and leave. Many of these tables of 2 came in after we did and had the same dishes we ordered. The couple beside us even apologized to us that they had come in, eaten, and were leaving while we hadn't seen a plate. After 50 minutes of waiting we went to check in and see how the order was coming. We also felt the app was going to come with the food so we asked, if it hadn't been made, could we please take it off of the order. We were told the food was done and they were going to bring it out. Great! The food arrived and only one of the 5 plates were warm. A hot ham & cheese was cold, the appetizer was cold, the burger with extra toppings ordered only had cheese. We took it for what it was and ate. When we finished we asked if we could speak to a manager. A supervisor came to our table and had no remorse since we were told we would have a long wait. The wait was not the issue. The issue is waiting, then the food coming out cold. We simply wanted our tip back as we felt it was not deserved, 1 by the service we experienced and 2 by the fact that there really is no one servicing you other than bringing out your food. We understood this going in. The supervisor sent the owner to talk to us. Not once was "sorry" said. We were told we came in when it was busy (we found a table right away). Our fryers are down and we had to bring some from home (Okay, that's fine, maybe mention this when we order a fried appetizer and other fried items. The food was fried in the end, but still came out cold.) We don't bring appetizers early because we don't wait tables (yet they brought our meals to us...). When we said we just wanted the tip back the owner said it's fine, I'll pay the girls myself (Who am I tipping?? We stood in line for our own refills. Not only were we never told sorry for the inconvenience, but now we're the bad guys who are not paying YOUR employees who don't wait tables?) In the same breathe we were told we don't have to put a tip when we order (We understood this, but it does ask and we felt like providing one at the time. After the service we didn't feel it was warranted). As another reviewer mentioned, this felt like something they are used to doing and they truly didn't care that we had a poor experience. The locals may understand how this place works, but someone off the interstate who orders an appetizer is probably going to expect it before the food as the name implies. The owner went back to doing her thing and had someone refund the tip. Before walking out one of the girls did hand us a box of cookies and she said she was sorry. It really said a lot that this girl felt for us, while the owner had no care in the world. It's possible the owner told her to give us the box, but it was never mentioned in front of us. We finally left 2 hours later.

I don't write this review to scare anyone away or be mean, but to help the restaurant learn what customers are experiencing and to hopefully improve. 4 of our 5 experiences...

We went there to stop for lunch. This passed week . . My mom has a walker. I was really upset over how they treated her with the walker. Let me explain. First they tell us to find a seat it was crowded so we found a seat. The next thing one of the waitresses came by and said we have to move this out of our way talking about the walker that was fine but she literally grabed it and put it up against another table that a couple with a baby and stuck it right up against their table. Number one she could have said i am gonna fold this up and put it in a corner and then i will get it when you need it would have been fine. But she was rude number 1. Again so we ordered etc. Well this couple was getting up to go so I grabbed the walker and pulled iy by us so they could get up Number 2 a young male waiter comes over and said i am gonna move this I said you can wait till this young couple get up with their baby then i3 will put it back over there. He gave me a dirty looked and walked away. Numder 3 Then came time to checkout and the line was on the other side. My mom went to the counter. The lady said I think the line is over there. Now she had her walker. She could not get past all those people with the walker to get to the end of the line. As there was not enough room So the lady in line told cashier to leave my mother go ahead. You need to address your employees to address someone with a walker and be respectful of someone having a walker. My mom is 88 and she needs the walker. And even if she wasn't 88 anyone with a walker should be treated with respect . Food was good but...

The worst experience! The young blond lady with multiple piercings behind the cash register/counter hands down has been the rudest person we have encountered. Not friendly environment at all…although customers were very nice!My husband/ his family has been going here for over 60 years.

When I asked if they had anything gluten free, I was told nothing there was gluten free and then I saw a roll on the menu that was listed gluten free and asked if they had any…she snapped “yes”.Then I asked is it a sweet roll like a cinnamon roll or? And she said rudely “it’s a roll”. I asked I just wasn’t sure if it was a roll to put butter on it or? And she said it’s a roll.

They also charge 32 cents for a cup of ice. Odd because we were eating in. I could have had it in a mug , but it was because of the cost of the cup.

And then when my husband went to get his two donuts to go, the other waitress let the girl know that he was at the counter and she was very obvious to say I know and did nothing about it made him wait. Then threw the donuts in the bag with a scowl. When he did receive the Donuts, He proceeded to walk out the door and throw them in the garbage. We will not give those donuts to his daughter three hours from here when the people we just paid $27 to treated us like dirt. For no reason. We always come into any establishment being polite and friendly and usually also talk to customers there....
