First and foremost, this place is less of a store and more of a destination spot. You can find just about everything you need for a home in this place; you can find everything from plates and dishes to curtains and beds and most products are pretty reasonably priced. But just so you know, you will most likely get lost in the matrix as this place is set up in different, maze-like sections with small entrance/exit points (great place to lose those annoying relatives). If you fancy some food, the restaurant is a decent choice. They are low on entree choices, mostly meatballs, salmon and chicken tenders, but all are rather tasty. The soda choices are bottled Pepsi, bottled Diet Pepsi and some third party fountain drinks. They also don't have paper cups, instead supplying glass drinking glasses and also do not have straws because they "are harmful to the environment" according to one employee. (I suppose they have not heard of bio-degradable or plant-based straws) The complaints most seem to have are directly related to relative novelty of the store, I'm sure all of that will subside once that goes away, including the parking situation and the stock supply problems which seem to be the most common concerns. Overall the place is quite interesting and you will find plenty of fun and interesting things to see and buy. Oh but don't be fooled by the Swedish signage, the words aren't always representative of what is being displayed but they're interesting to see. Just a warning, this store does display both the 30.06 and 30.07 signage which is very concerning since that leaves patrons defenseless against criminals who could care less about that anti-gun sentiment by store owners, so shoppers beware. On the bright side as I alluded to earlier, there are plenty of hiding places in the matrix. I'd recommend visiting...
Read moreI love this store! I am excited that San Antonio now can claim its own Ikea. I often visit the store in Round Rock and the one in Katy. Unfortunately out of the 6 or 7 times I have been to this new store in SA, nearly every single time I have had problems at the restaurant. Sad to say three or four times I have had to wait on a supervisor to undo an error by cashiers because they were unable to charge me correctly. The staff serving the food is not well trained, seem not to know the menu items and not welcoming at all! This last time I had 2 friends with me visiting for the first time and the impression from the restaurant was not good. There was no silverware at all! We waited as our food kept getting cold. The cashier although nice just shrugged her shoulders as to respond to my question when would there be forks for us to eat our food! But she kept ringing people who just wondered from place to place looking for a fork! It was horrible! About 10 minutes later she showed up with a hand full of forks, dropped them in the container and that was it. No apology, no "let me check into it," or "I have already asked and it's coming," or nothing. There were no supervisors available. The place was not crowded. So although I love this store and have made many purchases here, their restaurant is about one star right now. The food tastes good but their untrained, unfriendly restaurant staff makes you want to skip the restaurant until they have become better seasoned. Enjoy the store but do...
Read moreIkea has two places to eat inside, both are equally good in their own right.
The cafeteria is a classic grab a tray and utensils, lunch lady place except the food is actually tasty. I don't eat the meatballs anymore even though they're yummy AF but they give me hellacious gas so the trade off is not worth it IMHO. The other stuff like salmon, chicken and fries are on point. The layout is kind of confusing, it's not clear which way you should enter and you might find yourself looking around. Look for the spot where the trays, cups and utensils are and that's the flow/direction you should go.
The location by the registers has more of a fast food vibe, all the items are fresh and low priced, similar to Costco except smaller portions which is fine. Great cinnamon buns, hot dogs, pizza and frozen yogurt.
Both places have vegan/vegetarian options, thru both accept Samsung pay, Google pay and apple pay but it's finicky. the diet soda tastes like soapy medicine, and the ice dispensers puts out...
