DO NOT GO HERE FOR CUSTOM WORK. I paid almost 4k for a custom engagement ring and matching band (WITH NO CENTER DIAMOND MIND YOU) and they were awful to work with, and I hate my rings so much I do not wear them. What a waste of money. I think it would have been fine if I had picked one of their pre-made settings from one of the designers but for custom work, NO.
11-18 we went in and started the process. Ivan told me it would take about 2 weeks to get the auto cad based off my drawings in, and then once I approved the drawings it would take about a week or so to get the wax. My wedding was in April, so I though, oh yeah, plenty of time, ok. Anyway, a week or so later I went back in and tweaked my drawings and asked if it would reset my place in line, and he said no. It took a couple of weeks anyway. From December to March we went back and forth with the auto cad drawings. I went in several times in person to talk to Ivan and Erin, painstakingly trying to explain what I wanted and what wasn't right with the drawings. I felt it was too bold and not delicate enough, I wanted narrower bands, I wanted the center stone flush in the halo kind of like a half bezel, but they kept it in prongs every time and just lied and told me the stone would be able to be set flush in the setting with prongs. Well fast forward, and I finally approve the wax about 2 weeks before my wedding even though I thought it looked too bulky (they told me it would look more delicate than the wax). It came less than week before my wedding and I was so happy that it was finally there (I had literally been in there crying a couple of times because of the stress, being told 'just a few days' and having it turn into weeks) that I didn't pay that close attention to it. I had also requested a peach sapphire (the shade of morganite, because they told me morganite would be to soft since I am hard on my jewelry) and the stone that came in was PINK pink pink. I was so upset. I ordered a moissanite of the size they told me I would need to fit in the halo so it would sit flush with no gaps, took it to and had to take it to a different jeweler because they do not touch moissanite per company policy because they do not sell it. I took the stone and the setting in, and the other jeweler told me the stone was too big!!!!!!! OMG, it was 4 days before my wedding! They got on the phone, ordered me a different moissanite, and set it THE DAY BEFORE MY WEDDING.
Throughout the entire process, I feel like I was being lied to and tricked. I asked, is there a fee for the custom design, but Ivan kept feeding me vague answers. It was always weeks when they would say days. They told me I could get a morganite colored sapphire, nope. They Tried to get me to buy a center diamond, but I didn't want to spend even More money. They told me the setting would look more delicate in person, and it is not, and it is uncomfortable to wear because it's too wide underneath my finger which is why I asked for narrow bands in the first place. The invoice wasn't itemized, so I really have no idea how they came up with the total, it seemed very arbitrary to me. I tried to wear my ring and love it but I just can't, so now I am stuck with this ring that I hate, and am making payments on it for nothing. They refused to take it back or exchange it because it was custom work and I signed off on it, but the only reason I did is because they drew the process out so long and my wedding...

I have had my heart set on a Neil Lane engagement ring that is no longer in production. My boyfriend and I first saw this ring back in College Station at a Kay Jewelers. Living in San Antonio we decided we would go to a local store and purchase the ring, we went to the La Cantera location...at first the staff was fine but, seemed to only care about the sale. I described the ring and they were able to locate it in their database and explained they could order it in for us. We were told the original retail price but, due to the ring being discontinued the rep Linda said once we ordered the ring in we could negotiate a good deal. Knowing this ring was no longer in stock we decided to go ahead. We were told we had to open up a Kays account in order for them to order it for us...and about a week later they called and let us know it was in.
We went in that next weekend and the ring was as beautiful as ever. Yet, from the min we walked in Linda the sales rep was trying to get us to put the ring on my account. I reminded her she said there was room to negotiate the price on our first visit but, now she was acting like that was not the case. She said she could maybe "pull a few strings" for us and drop the price. Her big discount turned out to be $150 and said that was as low as she could possibly go.
Upset with her lying and tricking us into ordering the ring thinking we might get a better deal, I walked out of the store. She kept telling me as we walked out that we were making a mistake because this was my forever ring... About 3 days later her manager Scott called and said he was able to get the ring down an additional $400. I explained to him our price point (which we had told both him and Linda from the beginning) and that it was not something I wanted to go over. I said if he could drop it another $200 he would have a deal. He was so rude, simply said no and that he couldn't believe I would walk away from a deal over $200 dollars.
After that terrible customer service we decided to try Zales, long story short same fiasco...different store, they were ordering my ring in and after two weeks with no update from them I called to inquire about the status of the ring and they said they had never ordered it...
Finally I googled who else carried Neil Lane, after finding out Jared did I decided to give them a call...even though I swore I never would because their commercials are so corny! Haha. The lady on the phone from The Rim location was wonderful and a ton of help. This was a breath of fresh air! I asked my boyfriend if we could make a trip out there and being just as frustrated with this process he reluctantly agreed expecting the same service we received from Zales & Kays. Well as fate had it, we ended up on the other side of town actually on the way to Home Depot and I spotted the Jared location in the parking lot. We decided to stop in, and were helped by Ray and I am so glad we did. Not only did they have they ring IN STOCK but it was $1300 less than what Kay's originally tried to sell it to us for!!! Not to mention the service was spectacular.
If you're feeling pressured or frustrated by other stores do yourself a favor and come in! It was Heaven...
Read moreI wish there were more stars, they would get them all!!! My husband and I went in to see about getting a custom setting done with my original wedding and engagement rings. The staff is always so welcoming, even when they were busy and full of customers we were always greeted and soon taken care of beyond expectations. Getting a ring made is a magical experience and the team at this store is phenomenal. Jonathan G. began helping us and called in Ivan, the store manager to help as he is the best at putting the dream from your head into the computer for a design. I was unsure as to what I wanted, and the people there let me change my mind as many times as I needed, and always sought to make sure I knew my options for the settings. We ended up getting a casting of the rings more than once because the vision they helped me find hadn't quite made it to the setting, and they were absolutely outstanding when I wanted to try again. Such patience and agreeableness is a rarity, but it exists here at this store among the beautiful diamonds and precious gems that grace their displays. As the completion came near I was even lucky enough to me Jason, the man who would wield the tools to mold these metal settings into the pieces of art that now adorn my elated ring finger. The expert abilities of this man can only come from passion, and ingrained talent from being a third generation jewelry.... magician! lol. Ivan assured me that Jason would make the etchings on the rings and other details rival those of a prized heirloom, and I was shocked to find, in the end, that Jason out performed even my highest expectations! I wish I could show you a picture of these; my infinity princess leo diamond wedding ring with my past, present, future engagement ring with side accent diamonds, both have etching along the sides of the rings to add elegance and mil-grain that just sets them all off!!! They also worked together to add two J's on the inside of the engagement ring that have two diamonds set into them. I love all of the compliments that come when I wear these out, someone always notices them and I am always ready to tell them how they came to be... The experience with Ivan, Jason, Jonathan, and Jeremy was impossible to convey, but I hope this helps you decide to make an irreplaceable memory with the team at this store like we did. They are the best of their trade and we are full of praises for...
