Eppes Essen Deli & Restaurant (EE) is the stereotypical Jewish deli (that's good). My family (Christian) tradition, for as long as I can remember, is to enjoy smoked whitefish for breakfast on Christmas morning. Having purchased my whitefish at the local Shoprite every year for the last 15 years had worked out ok. However, I had to be way too proactive in pushing them to order the fish (about a $ 40-45 purchase) each year in enough time to be delivered before Christmas. This year I gave up and thought about going to EE to ask where they might recommend I search. I walked into EE's deli section and saw a huge selection of the most perfect smoked whitefish I have ever seen. They were large, plump, and healthy looking not like the small shriveled ones that were available at Shoprite. I paid a little more but it was definitely worth it. The whitefish turned out perfect. I could not have been more pleased with my purchase. While my experience was limited to only the deli, I looked at the restaurant menu, which also looked very appetizing, especially after looking at the salads and meats in the deli section. I intend on trying the restaurant in the near future and would certainly recommend the quality I found in the deli. 16 July 24. last really in the mood for a corned beef sandwich. when served, which was almost instantly, it came with a generous size cup of finely shaved cole slaw and two large dill pickles. The bread looked to be ho hum whole wheat but the bread isn't the attraction anyway. The corned beef portion was generous and very lean. Since no beer is available I chose water as my beverage. The sandwich, etc. was $ 23.99 which I thought was a bit pricey but most of the other sandwiches were similarly priced. Huge menu with salads, wraps, etc. I left feeling I had adequately satisfied my craving. Service was good and atmosphere,...
Read moreHaving grown up going to Jewish Delis an average of at least once a month, this place always came highly regarded and recommended.
I went with some co-workers a couple weeks ago and the food was great. We started with the Stuffed Cabbage (never one of my favorites, but this one wasn't bad) and some Chopped Liver (consistency and flavor were on point, but it could have come with a few more toast points). We also ate our fair share of their awesome Pickles and Cole Slaw. Then we shared the Corned Beef Reuben and (of course) the classic Pastrami on Rye. The Reuben was good, if not a touch heavy on the cheese. The Pastrami was cooked and seasoned perfectly (though I would have expected a slightly bigger portion based on my previous experiences elsewhere and the price).
We had a couple obligatory Dr. Brown's and the bill came to about $80. Now, it was an adequate amount of food, none of us left hungry per say, but I feel like either the prices could have been a bit more reasonable for the portion size, or the sandwiches could have been stacked a little higher.
I also took home 2 of their Chocolate Rugalach (which were a touch on the small side) and 1 each Poppy and Apricot Hamentashen (which was my favorite). The cookies were all delicious, but they also cost me $12.
I understand that Livingston is a fairly well-off neighborhood, and the food was all good quality, but I just feel like the value could have been a touch better. I would definitely return, but hopefully when someone else...

I have no horse in this race but after reading some of the reviews I’ll just tell it how it is. You don’t pay this guys bills so if you feel something is too expensive for You then go elsewhere. There’s no shame in that. No need to post a negative review about how you don’t like the prices and you know cheaper places so you’re gonna leave a bad review. All that means is you don’t belong there and you shouldn’t go there if that’s how you feel. Trying to hurt someone’s business because you don’t like the price of the food is really low. Not to mention some of you probably don’t even like yourselves which is why you post such ignorant reviews! As far as another reviewer being upset that the breakfast omelette was too big? What kind of person bashes someone for having a nice portion except for someone with a mental issue? And it’s people like you that make it that fat guys like me can’t enjoy a nice sized sandwich or meal. You should be ashamed of yourself for even posting a review like that! Anyways, Thank you Eppes for always providing my family and I with great food and...
